I don’t understand why they would pay that fee for him now when his contract is up next year. Or not want more years. I know money is meaningless to the oil tycoons but surely they have some kind of limit ?

I would suspect the £300m is to make sure that no other club can even get close to the offer. Also, puts them in the record books for years to come!
