I went to a Sage presentation for their latest Sage Accounts Production years ago
They put an example of a profit & loss account on the large screen
Somebody pointed out that it didnt add up correctly
Mad panic: "This is a beta version. The final version will be ok!"

I work for Sage, although not on the accountancy software. On a product for manufacturing.

    "What AccountingWEB says
Originating many years ago from Deloitte, Sage Accounts Production Advanced (SAPA) appears to have strayed off course in recent years as Sage wrestled with the competing priorities and requirements of its three accounts production applications.

This lack of direction and product focus appears to have affected all Sage’s applications, from Sage 50 Accounts to its tax and practice tools, all of which have dropped in their share of ratings in the different categories.

Against this background decline, SAPA actually gained a few points on its product rating scores this year, but it still comes out with one of the lowest scores for value for money. SAPA was not affected so much by technical issues with the transition to new UK GAAP and FRS 102, but a couple of comments indicate that the program has become harder to use.

With the final accounts module of Sage Accountant Cloud emerging from the latest product branding overhaul, the rationale for maintaining all three is wearing thin. Many customers will be watching to see which of Sage’s other AP products will emerge as the focus for further desktop developments."

I switched from Sage to Xero a couple of years back and for me it's been a far better system (I had a ridiculously expensive custom built Sage system that was always failing). The only problem is you can't format the way products appear on invoices, they can only appear alphabetically in a row, which irritates our customers as they can no longer see at a glance the ratio's they bought goods in. There's also no facility for recording forward orders, you can only enter goods already sold.

Xero is bookkeeping software so I suppose you are talking about the Sage Accounts which is bookkeeping software too
Xero is a very good product. I get all my clients onto it if they need bookeeping software although most smaller clients prefer to record their transactions using spreadsheets but MTD for ITSA will change that.
The problem with Sage Accounts is that it's a very old program and the development environment would take a lot of work to make the coding more efficient.

Sage continue to sponsor various high quality facilities in the North East as well as providing many jobs in the area.

The latest venture is the Sage Arena - a 12,500 capacity events space with attached conference facilities and hotels to be located between the current Sage Gateshead cultural centre and the Baltic Art Gallery. It's located directly at the south side of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.

Just an intuition but I feel that this thread may be drifting off topic slightly.

We're a Sage practice so I personally really like Sage. Xero is also very good, it has some good features and is more user friendly for the actual businesses but Sage I feel is better for accountants. Don't get me started on Quickbooks!

I think Xero considers both business owners and accountants
They have lots of videos to explain how to do things and their technical support, although email based, is very helpful.
Digita, for accounts production and tax has phone based technical support

We're due to give someone a stuffing.
Anyway, to get things back on track, what accounting software does City use?

He doesn't actually Ric, he took a break from it, not for any other reason than he suffered about 8 fatalities with high profile horses in a short space of time and he and his wife really loved the horses.
