Wow, Mitrovic of to Saudi for €58 million. Wonder if they fancy a tall lad called Paul for £25-£30 million?
Aren’t they bringing in Jimenez? And then a combined 40 odd million on Bassey and Salisu comes quite close to €58m. And then it comes more down to what their original budget was They might make a real offer for JWP with this inflow
Yeah, Wonder what happens now then. West ham and Liverpool have been linked with lots of players recently in midfield.
I wonder if we will utilise the loan market at all? There are fewer restrictions in the championship if I recall. But it doesn’t align with our strategy. The only reason would be for young players that a club like city really don’t want to sell - but we’d surely want a buy option (perhaps contingent on promotion) which defeats the point other than cash flow I guess I guess this is getting ahead of things as well still have far too many of our own players on the books - let alone taking other clubs ones on
There is a lot of demand for quality 8s this season, every team in the top half seems to be signing them. JWP must be on a lot of lists, the more that get signed or injured the further up he will go.
8s and 6s it seems? As arsenal have spend the highest on someone I only assume will be a 6 and Liverpool want a 6 having signed two 8s. Man United signed someone I assume they will use as an 8 and arguably need someone else who can play 6 because they are basically a different team without Casemiro What are city up to in midfield? I guess there is a chance if Liverpool sign phillips then they bring back Lavia early ? Which role does Caicedo primarily play? I haven’t watched him enough With regards to lists - there is also an element that the more that get signed the fewer slots are available for him to fill at other sides. Unless they trade among themselves
The obsessions with numbers when talking midfielders might just be one of the worst things about modern football.
Midfielders these days are specialist in certain areas of midfield. It's just an easier way of referencing a certain skill set really. Every footie fan knows what a 6, 8 and 10 need to do as a specialty. But also attributes like work rate and passing and agility can be added to them all. Without really being specialist.
Caiciedo is a 6, but Brighton are asking mad money for him (which make our Lavia demands sound perfectly reasonable).
You answered your own question, they're useless - the interested clubs are realising that far too early and calling the deals off
Nicolas Jackson, who we tried to sign last year, and our brilliant fans looked at Wikipedia and decided he wasn't good enough, has been sensational for Chelsea in pre-season.
