Ainsworth is well used to having zero money to spend and has done brilliantly at keeping a team in League One, and occasionally doing well in that league, in those circumstances.Thought I read that reading paid fir a youngster they had on loan from Man Utd. All a bit odd for a supposedly cash strapped club.
I guess we are sticking to our financial guns. GA learning the hard way it seems.
This has been going on for so long you have to think we’ve passed on him. As a free transfer we’d have snapped him up if he was any good, surely.
I think he's scored about a dozen championship goals in his career. Granted, that's extreme fire power where we are concerned. In the Loft For Words interview with GA (published yesterday), Gareth said he was a "big fan" of Wing who "has played Championship and scored goals at this level". That's pretty conclusive that GA would have liked to sign him and something - presumably money - got in the way. It's hard to believe that a footballer would choose to play for a skint side at a lower level, rather than for us in the Championship. Surely that gives a real and worrying insight as to where we are at the moment?

My thoughts exactlyWing didn’t want to come for whatever reason.
I’m looking at the positive in this, maybe we had a narrow escape as he’s ****e,
We move on![]()
Maybe. However, there will always be factors in these decisions we will never know.
1. Possibly didn't like GA. That's just one bloke and many others do.
2. Has family in Reading.
3. Boyhood Reading fan.
4. Loves The Elizabeth Line and wanted to be at one end of it.
5. Thinks Reading a great place to live (mental health lines available).
6. Their DoF played FIFA with him!
7. Hates QPR as some folk do for no good reason just like each of us has our pet hate clubs.
Etc, etc. So your last sentence is probably correct but not necessarily.

Where in Somerset Rodders? As someone who is about to move from a Somerset village back to the Reading area (I know, I know), I think there are some good reasons in your list for why Wing turned us down, although surely no-one signs to a club just because of a game of FIFA? I also think BobMid's rumour about a longer contract on offer from the Fakes rings true, perhaps because QPR are over-compensating for the mistake of giving Hamalamadingdong a 10-year holiday/contract.
