Now if only we could move past the abysmal defensive lapses and lazy defending of Janny B, Jacky S and Lyanc O...
Salisu’s nickname at Saints behind the scenes from fellow players (and some staff) was Mr Lazyman… make of that what you will
If we bring in a total of c£40m for Salisu and Sulemana, I would see that as very good work. (If it was c£50m, that would be brilliant work.)
Last year Salisu chose not to play for Ghana during their build up to the World Cup. Some thought it was out of loyalty to Saints, but I saw it as a red flag. (Of course he was more than happy to join up with their squad during the actual World Cup though). And at the same time Bednarek was basically hounded out of the club because he wanted to play in Poland's World Cup play off.
*because it was reported that he refused to play in a cup knock out (I believe quarter final) several days before hand The reaction to Bednarek’s behaviour was not unreasonable at all. If it was as reported then it was a disgrace.
If I remember correctly, it wasn’t even that playing the 1/4 final for Saints would have meant he couldn’t play for Poland. There were quite a few days in between. It was just that his head wasn’t right for it. It was total bs from Bedders, however I think he had a bit of a humbling during his unsuccessful loan spell and has since shown his desire to fight for his place, worked on his vocal encouragement during games and was a leader towards the end of a ****ty season, and I think as a result, most have forgiven him. Salisus ****ty attitude however has not been a one off, and the sooner he ****s off the better. Bedders stood up during the relegation ‘fight’, Salisu threw a tantrum and didn’t want to damage his nails.
"Reported" being the key word here. By whom? Fans on social media. All Ralph ever said was that Jan's 'head wasn't in the right place' etc. And yeah, even so, World Cup playoff trumps an FA cup game, for which there were sufficient fit CBs any way. If Salisu can't play because he's fasting for Ramadan, oh we must respect that. But Beddie wanting his nation to qualify for the World Cup? Nah. Also, imagine if England players were hounded out of the England set-up every time they 'refused' to play for England. We'd be picking Championship players.
That quote from Ralph says it all. If you can’t get your head right for a quarter final for your team then the conclusions drawn are completely valid. Way too much apologising for shocking behaviour from Bednarek. Unless we don’t believe Ralph - but you brought his quote into this As for Ramadan - no one mentioned that in this thread until now. Was that ever given as an excuse for not playing? Or just poor bouts of form - which would clearly later be revealed as just an excuse / cover since his poor form went on for far longer. And I’d argue having restricted meal times is a far better reason than “I have the first leg of a playoff in a week’s time”. It wasn’t even a decisive match. Ramadan sucks at certain times in the northern countries as our days are so long but the eating rules don’t change. They aren’t allowed to use the equivalent sunrise and sunset times in Mecca so their fast is even longer than it was ever intended And don’t most if not nearly all England players who drop out at least claim an injury?
