Morning over at my mates at keighley (bronte park) so missed the game. Firpo i think we are stuck with. Who would buy him on last seasons performances.
We're sleepwalking in to watching the same old dross. Meslier Cooper Ayling Bamford Harrison Firpo They all have a long history of sub standard performances costing the club goals and points and ultimately money. Harsh on some that are just getting old or maybe Harrison who is just inconsistent but at the moment we will start with this lot in a few weeks time. Goalkeepers who finish bottom of % saves made. Defenders who can't defend. Strikers who finish top of big chances missed every season. Most of them injury prone. I understand that the likes of Cresswell, Dramah, Gnonto and Rutter aren't perfect themselves but they've less baggage and there's the hope that they can learn along the way.
So the same dross that finished 1st last time they played in the Championship ? Apart from super duper Junior Firpo of course.
Not in the slightest because the squad our previous muppets assembled would have struggled to survive in championship last season. They need clearing. Easy part is giving them away. Difficult part is doing what we’ve failed miserably to do previously and recruit some quality that Farke can work with. Could take a couple of seasons to rectify the damage dumb and dumber have done
This season they’ll be up against equally sub standard players, and not the best players in the world.
And they were all four years younger. None of them are near the players they were back then with possible exception of Harrison who won’t be around
Really you think they're all now totally past it ? If we'd stayed in the PL there was a case for getting younger, quicker, better players but in the Championship we'll be absolutely fine with those players in the squad.
We might have gone up the year before if Cooper and Kiko hadn't gifted Derby a way back into the play off 2nd leg. We rightly ditched Kiko but replaced him with Meslier who has conceded more goals than anyone else the last two seasons and scored poorly in shots stopped. Luke Ayling has been a great servant. I really like him but it's clear that he has aged and not the same player he was 4 seasons ago. It's not really a time for sentiment. Bamford has missed more big chances than any other striker in Europe the last two seasons and is massively unreliable in quality and fitness. Harrison is a good player but inconsistent and I think we have to sell to get funds in to the club. Sounds a bit harsh but he needs moving on. Firpo is **** and injury prone. He is also ****. Although I believe on a good day he might play **** every now and again. One thing you can rely on Junior for is his complete commitment to being the ****test player on the pitch.
Of those listed only Cooper & Ayling were at the club prior to Bielsa. Meslier Bamford Harrison Firpo All have not finished lower than 3rd in the Championship with us, or in Firpo's case not yet played at that low a level.
Spot on. We’ll probably be stuck with some of them for this holding season but hope they’re all gone by time we’re trying to build a promotion challenging side next summer
Imagine how many points we would have gained in the promotion season (or the one before) with a proper striker. Even Bielsa said that normally a team averages 1 goal for every 3 chances created. For us it is 1 goal in 6 chances created. I haven't seen any evidence that this stat has improved. Football is pretty simple. Stop them from scoring and put the ball in the net at the other end on a regular basis. We have been poor at both. There's time left to rectify it but we are running out of it.
Would rather look at the League table to be honest. We finished 3rd and then 1st in the Championship and followed that up with a 9th place finish in the PL. Absolutely no reason to bomb all our experienced players out of the club now that we're back in the Championship.
