Mahoney is ready? He's made 2 professional appearances in his entire career, a loan is exactly the right thing not being chucked straight in the lions den. Its basically either Archer or Begovic for the number one spot, I know which I'd choose.
Yeh it would be good to see Mahoney get a season of first team appearances on loan, if at all possible, to gain that experience week in/week out to step up a level. Then assess him for first team football for us.

I didn't expect much this pre-season and I know our spell of 5 signings a day are long gone but this is depressing. The Watford Thread has hit home how close the season is. Surely we cant start a season without a full bench! I appreciate we'll be hanging round for the yellow sticker trolley before making signings. The trouble is that the seasons seem to be starting earlier, meaning you've already played a good number of games before deadline day.

I heard a rumour that his potential wage demands were too high for us but I find that hard to believe if Reading have got him. No real loss in my eyes, just another bang average player.
