No necessarily. If we can sell a couple, or even get rid of a couple for no fee, we can generate a bit of spending power.
Tbh, I'd be happy if Lascelles stays as back up. I know he's had a lot of stick from fans, but his heart is in the club, he's a grafter and seems a good character to have around the squad. He's dependable, despite not being 1st choice. Everyone saying we need a first choice CB ahead of Schar, but would Schar be happy to stay, or would he sulk and eff off? I know we are making step changes and need to improve, but if were to get a new RCB, I wouldn't be overly surprised if it were Schar who wanted to go and Lascelles who stays. Similar to what we saw with Dubz last season when he was no longer 1st choice keeper.
Well, I adjusted for Tonali in this window too, so it's been peeled back a bit, but if we can get rid of Darlow (for the reported £6m) it looks like this - outgoing wages are accurate (Barnes / Tonali wages are assumed): If we can sell Lascelles too, like this: Lascelles @£7m is worth a £30m player on 60k a week.
Yes, sure I'd swap him out for an 'upgrade'. What I mean is we can't just assume current 1st choices, like Schar, will be happy sitting on the bench. It might be a case of Schar wanting to leave over Lascelles. It's not fan fantasy football, it's real players.
I guess you also need to factor in the £6m(?) for Minteh, plus I'm sure there have been other youngsters recently who we've paid transfer fees for as well? Although is it just now that we've received money for Wood & Shelvey, or did we already get that back in January?
I don't see a £30m signing being on £60k a week, we signed Botman for around that and he's on £90k. Krafth is on around £60k and he's nowhere near the first team.
I agree, however I think Schar still starts most games this year. Our defence was insanely good last year. But if we shipped Lascelles and brought in a young pretender to play the lesser role in a rotation, that would be more what I'd expect.
That's fair enough, but most seem to be calling for a new 1st choice RCB, who would cost more - and piss off Schar.
Fee / wages isn't a tangential curve... but I know what you're saying. Krafth is on £55k. Pope is only on £60k. Longstaff £50k... Maybe we can steal a good youn un from somewheere and not have to pay him Botman money now, as we're a more attractive prospect... It's a minefield.
