I love the fact that predicting finishing 4th is seen as the ultimate statement of delusion. It's 4th place, behind 3 other teams. Too much 21st century Sky Sports watching I reckon.

United and City will be up there, but Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal have all dropped points this year and I struggle to spot a favourite. I'm not predicting us to be there, but when its this open there's always a chance.

We'll just skirt along under the radar. Nothing to see here as Chief Wiggum would say! We'll slowly pick them off one by one like a Japanese sniper!

Seiously you lot saying Enrique is a £6-£10 mil player is as silly as me saying Carroll is worth £35mil you can't admit you got robbed but at least we are honest enough to admit we were robbed on the Carroll deal. Double standard's.

I'm not quite sure you understand how transfer dealings work. If a player is in the last year of his contract, that brings his value down somewhat. Especially if the player has no desire to sign a new contract, and other clubs would happily double his wages. Like people have said, he would've left on a free so you have to take what you can get. Liverpool could've waited until the summer and got him for nothing, but then we would've had a player that didn't want to play for us and that we were going to get nowt for. So if you look at it that way, Liverpool have paid £6m for a player that they could've easily had for free. Enrique was never going to stay with Newcastle for longer than he had to.

Yeah we robbed you with Carroll, but you're sadly mistaken if you think taking Enrique off us for a small price has made up the deficit between what Carroll is worth and how much Liverpool paid for him. If Liverpool were to sell Carroll and Enrique in January, you wouldn't get £41m for both of them.

Were you really robbed with Carroll though? As I see it the only club robbed in that little round robin was Chelsea. You only paid 35m because you were getting 50m for Torres. Had you been getting 20m-30m for Torres (probably closer to his actual value at the time), then I'm sure you would have paid a lot less for Carroll. The 20m extra you paid for Carroll was paid for by Chelsea effectively. Very nice of them. I don't think we were robbed on Enrique. He was out of contract. He is a 15m fullback for me but we were not in a position to demand that kind of money because of the contract situ.

You were robbed on Henderson though! Even if I think he will be a smashing midfielder given time.

<laugh> while he was still at us the most we thought he's ever worth was around £12m
No one anywhere near that though because he was in the last year of his contract <doh>

I thought £12 - £15m was a fair price, had the contract situation or his desire to leave not been an issue. He's a great player, but not sure he's quite worth £20m+. I was annoyed when I thought Liverpool were getting him for £4m as that would've been a steal, but £6m recovered most of what we paid for him anyway and we seem to have found a sufficient replacement in Taylor.

Also need to understand that full backs arent nearly as important to a team as midfielders and strikers are, you couldnt demand £20m for a full back, even in todays market. Let alone in our case when he was about to leave for free anyway.

Proof of how insignificant a full back is in the grand scheme of things is how much better we are doing with Ryan Taylor at LB when he is a far inferior player to Enrique.

Ok right Mr transfer market genius. The people that run Newcastle let Enrique run his contract down and sold him on the cheap, are you telling me that's the way the transfer market work's??

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr don't get me started! Every position is as important as the next. Raylor has just been awesome and played like a 15m fullback. If you think its insignificant, ask the mackems. They've had Kieron Richardson masqueraing as a full back for the best part of two years due to Fat Head, I reckon 90% of their goals are because of this. But I do agree that full backs will never be worth as much as a striker in the money mens eyes. Goals win games. (Raylor has those too!)

They dont influence the game as much in that a brilliant full back isnt that much more influental than a good full back, which is why strikers sell for so much more money. A brilliant striker is much more influental than a decent one.

I never claimed to be a 'transfer market genius' but I clearly understand it more than you do. Enrique didn't want to play for us anymore. We would have had to give him a stupid contract offer to make him stay which would undermine all the hard work the club is doing to keep wage costs down, unlike most other Premier League clubs where they're absolutely astronomical. Surely it would've been a stupid decision to keep an unhappy player at the club for a year and get **** all for him when you could flog him for £6m!

You make a very good point there, Chelsea were robbed £50m for Torres. Newcastle got the best deal out of the whole lot. We didn't really benefit financially from the Chelsea money because most of it went for Carroll and in terms of quality we didn't really improve in our attack. You can't say 'yeah but we got Saurez' because he was meant to play alongside Torres. Instead he is now playing along side Carroll (sometimes). Don't get me wrong, Carroll will come good...but £35m good? Probably not.

    Of course they were.

It's like saying some thief stole a million from me after I won the euro millions but left me a can of pepsi behind but I won't consider it as theft because I still have 299m left + a can of pepsi.

    Or something like that.

if you'd paid what you did for him when he had just signed a 5 yr contract then i'd call that being robbed but paying what you did when his contract was nearly up i'd say a fair price and prob the going rate just look at the bargains we have got,i honestly don't know what you want us to say as far as i'm concerned at this moment in time 10m is a fair valuation and i'm sure if he performs as he can it will rise.stop trying to justify paying stupid money for a player with the transfer of another for one they just don't compare.
