At the time the government had a decision to make. They'd delayed lockdown anyway and that caused the virus to spike and probably led to unnecessary deaths. They had no option but to lockdown.

I can't think of how a plan for partial lockdown with millions of mixed households would work tbh.

It's easy to say we can just lockdown the vulnerable but in reality impossible to action. Who decides who's lockdown? Who manages that? Who monitors it and enforces it and how? Interested to know if any country even attempted it and what happened.

And those with interests in large office blocks to fill.

Agree about the Eat Out btw. Made no sense <laugh>

Other stupidness was the outdoor rules. Can't remember half of them but only being out for certain time and not being able to stand around or sit in a park iirc seem weird looking back now.

That's a pretty low opinion you have of ppl Aber <laugh> What was furlough? 75%. I think most would prefer to work and get the full amount.

Schools were closed to most children and even that was on and off, but teachers were still planning and teaching online. There were some children (of keyworkers) who were still coming in.

Yeah who knows. You've highlighted the potential people with issues but they are a lot less than those without so why not manage the smaller number?

I was out with the mutt and never bothered finding out what the outdoor rules were as couldn't see any threat to my health particularly as nearly all traffic disappeared.
I have to say i miss the social distancing rules which we need permanently but only cos half the people in this country are so ****ing stupid that they think standing right behind you is a good idea

    Anyone deemed clinically vulnerable.

As in, genuinely at risk. Were anyone with any degree of asthma deemed to be so? If so, then they have a decision to make.

As for the second point, it's self policed. By the person at risk. If that means their family are worried for their welfare, they make that decision also and are supported. Not the whole population stay indoors just in case, the at risk person self isolates, instead of absolutely everyone having to do it.

I don't think any country did do this, no. It was all out or none out. No doubt it is simpler to make everyone or no one do it, as the option of only those genuinely at risk or affected having to do it wasn't explored, but that doesn't make it right.

There is a far higher %age of the population, based on your own figure above, not at risk than at risk.

I’ve probably got a much lower opinion of people on other subjects rather than that of the Covid debacle dude <laugh>

I’m surprised it’s taking you so long to figure it out

The lockdown had very little to do with the clinically vulnerable / vulnerable but was more to do with the numbers of "healthy" people who would end up in hospital if the infection rate kept expanding exponentially -hence the "protect the NHS" slogan rather than the "protect the vulnerable" .

"Healthy" being fat and unfit, smokers, junk food eaters, with no actual clinical condition.

Sad state of affairs that, eh? Both on the state of our countries population, and its NHS.

See, these are the people I'd be less inclined to 'protect' by being forced to stay indoors and/or off work for any length of time.

And yes, it is their own fault. Being a fat **** isn't a condition, however much some would like to protest.

Anyway, its done now so no point continuing to grumble.

I'd have done it differently, but those 'in charge' were ****ing winging it, I understand that and always did.

I think we'd have ended up in the same place death wise whichever route we'd have taken, but a good deal fewer businesses and livelihoods would have been lost by not locking us all up.

Can't prove that though, of course.

I've got nothing to back it up, but I'd assume the unhealthy state of our nation is due to the reliance of fast food. I can remember the first time I went to the states, I was shocked by their obesity levels, ie visually see - often many of them would also be in mobility scooters. It was no surprise with all you can eat restaurants. Sadly with more and more introduction in the UK of fast food outlets, then delivery, so you haven't even got to get off your arse to even get it, saw our health decline. I've seen some arguments that people have to eat junk because that is all they can afford, well I'm pretty damn sure I could cook some healthy substantial meals with good produce from the amount of money spent on fast food, and yes that would be more than 30p lol.

Junk food is cheap, totally get that.

But it all becomes self fulfilling as people then can't be arsed to go and buy some produce that is even cheaper than fast food.

Have a takeaway as a weekly treat even, but all the time so you get so massive you can't go anywhere and do anything is a person's own doing.

Quite pricey now tbf. Not much change from thirty quid if they all have a 'meal'.

When you're on the go, why not? It's what they are there for. It's not supposed to be your evening meal.

£30 to me seems a lot of money for a struggling family, I'd suggest most those families it is their evening meal, and they could eat better with that sort of money. I should add with respect, I'm not using you as a comparison Chief, you don't fit into the category of family I'm on about.

As a CEV I was put into isolation for an initial 12 weeks, given priority slots for deliveries from supermarkets. But I also didn’t have a face to face appointment for 24 months.

best bit is that WFH has been shown to work for many, it won’t become the norm, but a great option for those who can.
