I'd imagine that he's cheap depth more than anything. I'd be pretty surprised if signing Redmond precluded them from chasing Tella or an upgrade, because Redmond's not a consistent starter-quality PL player. Useful to have but probably not good to rely on him too much.
Yep, been mentioned on here that Redmond was good with the younger players. Maybe this is to help Tella
This. I don’t think it has any impactful meaning on the Tella situation other than both players being mates.
I doubt Redmond is the cheap depth option if his wages are anything close to what he was on here. Unless he has taken a big pay cut he’d be one of Burnley’s top earners. In a club whose budget isn’t big
I'd rather Tella than £15m and Redmond. Tella has his entire career ahead of him and in his 1st season as a regular starter has just scored 17 goals from out wide in the championship. I don't get why people aren't more excited about Tella this season. He scored 2 less than Piroe as a winger - fans would be buzzing if we signed him.
They've brought in a player to be good in the dressing room with a player that they haven't yet bought! I know someone on here who'd be very excited if we did that
His wages won't be anywhere near what they were when he was here, I'm confident of that. He would have taken a large pay cut when he joined Besiktas, as well.
I liked Redmond, but Pep was right, he needed a kick up the arse or something to take him up to the next level. He was far too passive in games and happy to drop deep and get the balll 40-50 yards from goal and not in areas where he could hurt teams. He may change in his twilight years, but wouldn’t bank on it.
That's a really good signing. I reckon I'm going to enjoy watching Burnley next year. I didn't honestly think I'd be saying that.
