I watched the end of the match, but it's the first tennis I've watched in years.
I used to watch it a lot but all the grunting puts me off now. It's like the soundtrack of a badly-dubbed Danish porn film from the 70s.

    Yeah totally agree
    I really enjoy tennis
Have played to a decent level and have a lot of time for majority of players

    that was an excellent final
But the underhand that Djokovic tried again over and over - I cannot applaud - if he had not gone for his extended break to disrupt Alcaraz’ rhythm I think that game would have been over in the fourth

    he was gracious in defeat
    No beef with that
    Cracking final

Novak Djokovic says he’s never played a player like Carlos Alcaraz:

“People have been talking about his game consisting of certain elements from Roger, Rafa, & myself. I’d agree with that. He’s basically got the best of all 3 worlds… I haven’t played a player like him ever”

The one where they’re allowed 7 mins and he took 6 min 30 seconds?

The biggest piss taker when it comes to toilet breaks etc is Tsitsipas.

You can say whatever you want
I am not belittling your opinion or Mark Blows despite calling my opinion comedy gold (mark not you)

I don’t care if its within the rule
It’s obvious what is going on
He has done it too many times at too many crucial moments
The toilet break is meant for just that - a toilet break

    not to
    Get coaching tips
    Refocus
    Stop oppositions momentum

No idea why you being so pedantic - many people know what he nadal tsitsipas have done

and this is why I can’t be bothered to debate it

like making a back isn’t deemed as illegal or against the rules
The rule is abused - because there is a loophole in it
However the top top top top quality players
    The Greats
Never needed to do dickheaded underhanded tactics to win Finals

    he does and has

but if you want to be pedantic and quote rules go right ahead

As I posted earlier many a more articulate and more intelligent people than I have spotted this in his game
Andy Murray called it cheating too btw

    I call it cheating
You can call whatever the hell you want doesn’t matter to me

to me (and countless others) he won’t be the GOAT no matter what stats say because of this.

you may scroll stats and find Roger did it once who knows
Certain players have made habits of it and won many a game because of it

as MITO pointed out he tried every trick today and failed - I am glad
    Today Tennis won imho
    Great final
    Right winner

Not saying you’re wrong. I don’t particularly like him. Clearly a brilliant tennis player just not like likeable as fed or nadal.

Was only asking because you said he was a cheat no debate. Just wondered what he had done to cheat as like I said, I’m a casual follower so didn’t know if I’d missed something.

Clearly by the rules he’s not a cheat, just not very sportsmanlike and will push the rules to the boundaries. That’s totally fair enough reason to not think he’s as good as others though <ok>

    djokovic basted the first set.

the second things were going bad he started slowing things and was sitting in his chair taking another sip of his bottle etc after time was called.

he was letting clock run down constantly and at start of one set he vanished then came back and again took a sip and acted like he could do what he liked.

basically every trick in the book bit the young lad had his measure as he was taking all the pace off the balls and letting djokovic miss shot of after shot.

no disrespect to the lad but he is 20 playing and old man so of course the old man was under pressure. to compare him to prime federer or Nadal is silly and just djokovic justifying why he got beat.

he is only not a proven cheat because we can’t follow the guy to the toilet and prove what he does or doesn’t do

he takes his toilet break when he is in trouble
Some have even implied he takes performance enhancing drugs at this point (to me that’s crazy btw)

It’s also alleged he fakes injuries imho and again I am not the only one who thinks that and professional doctors have piped up and said that the injuries he claims and then performs through are impossible (Nadal too has had this said of him) Roger was not accused of such things Navratilova never accused of these kinds of things
Not going to list them all but you get the picture

as i said this has gone on for years
And many have had their say

but everyone knows he is not going to the toilet
So as I said - for me it’s cheating

You obviously never watched Nadal much. The one player who other players complained about taking too much time over everything was Nadal. When it comes to gamesmanship and pushing things to the limit Nadal was the King of it.

    Agree with all that btw
    Prime Federer was unbelievable
And for me he is the GOAT
I think lol it’s really tough In tennis
Djokovic has had long periods of little or no competition due to age, injuries
No doubt he is a top player

who is your GOAT MITO in tennis

Not it’s not, you can almost guarantee that every player that takes a bathroom break is not doing it because they need to use the toilet.

    No it’s a stupid statement

And you are the one now saying you guarantee that all are doing it - that’s just so daft - I believe many players genuinely need toilet breaks and use the allowance correctly

You clearly don’t agree on my opinion of Djokovic
    That’s fine

i will not be saying/agreeing that everyone who has a toilet break is cheating
I will be sticking with my original opinion that there are some tennis players who abuse a rule that is there for the welfare of the players

And the ones who do abuse it are cheats

I include Novak Djokovic in that group of players due to the long chronicled occasions that he has done it in major finals and crucial moments - which many others do not have such a well documented and chronicled series of coincidences

I do not include the likes of Sampras Borg Lendl Federer Murray Agassi Navratilova Graff Becker Evert
    Just how I think

it’s also not the only thing he does to gain an advantage - and nearly all of them have been debated over the years, MITO gave examples tonight of the stuff he was up to.
As did the commentators in the final. As it’s fairly obvious.

    - so I stand firmly behind my initial opinion that he is a cheat.

fairly confident that one of the big tennis players - want to say Nadal
Openly admitted to cheating (by the rules) in a final and **** all happened - sure he admitted to getting coaching whilst on the court ?
    Could be wrong ?

    me?

oh I don't know. Truthfully I don't really like tennis my old mother is the one who really likes tennis from our family and always did.

I'd have to say that Federer in his prime hit a tennis ball in a way that is like nobody else.

my parents would have watched snooker also and this argument on GOAT could easily boil down to the same type of thing there. o'sullivan is utterly unique in ball striking but Henry is like djokovic. ruthless and relentless

Well I know some just go by numbers but in the end there's certain sportspeople who imo just step outside the convention of what everyone else can do and prime Federer v young nadal was that.

I can't really comment anything else as I simply don't really bother with tennis at this point.

for me the bad period of mens tennis coincided with a reasonable era in womens. Though in truth both were dominated by serve.

Graf dominated through the serve and frankly serena has done so also.

the mens game pre GOAT era was diabolical as it was a big bash boring affair. Sampras was diabolical.

I'd call the now just passed era the GOTA era in men's tennis as lets face it you could have made a living off betting in major finals form the 1st to semi finals by just betting on federer, nadal and djokovic. Add in murray competing a bit. thats a long period of absolutely sky high levels compared to those below it.

I'm sure back in the 80s or whenever before becker say the big booming serve was not so dominant and the likes of mcinrow etc were probably good but I have no idea.
