A fair article that looks at the small progression being made here, but also critical of the slowness of it all. I have seen parking areas outside large stores being covered over with solar panels, that not only provide power, but shade too. The company is forced into doing it by law, but reaps the benefit of lower fuel bills. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jun/24/environment-france-emmanuel-macron-crisis-uk
Zac Goldsmith RESIGNS from Rishi Sunak’s government. “The problem is not that the government is hostile to the environment, it is that you, our Prime Minister, are simply uninterested.” Edit: https://www.theguardian.com/politic...gnation-letter-in-full?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Resigning because of government apathy towards the environment is a start, but personally I think they should all be resigning - or be sacked - for apathy towards UK citizens.
Now that the "establishment" has become involved, maybe something will actually happen to stop the river being used as an open sewer. https://www.theguardian.com/environ...omplain-of-sewage-pollution-from-thames-water Of course, if you fancy a dip in the sea at Blackpool, you are told not to. No famous names getting involved here. https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/...untreated-sewage-is-released-into-sea-4180379
China just experienced its highest temperature in recorded history, topping out at an unbelievable 52.2°C (126°F). This crushes the country's previous all-time high by 1.7°C (3°F). I wilt when it gets to 35°C here. Just what temperatures will our grandchildren be expected to live with?
It was a rather pleasant 15°C here today, some light drizzle and a slight breeze. Possibly ideal for climate refugees.
Living tree bridges. Loosely related to the environment - but how ingenious is this? https://hasanjasim.online/a-living-tree-bridges-in-india-stand-strong-for-hundreds-of-years/?
The Greek government declared that Rhodes evacuation (due to out-of-control wildfire) is the largest in the country's history. Can anyone tell me why British holidaymakers are still being flown into this by EasyJet and others?
The London Economic indulging in a bit of scaremongering? The very first reply to their tweet provides a link to an article which outlines perfectly plausible - and natural - alternative reasons for the deaths - which are near-common occurrences.
and reading the uk news reports you would think that the only people on the island were (spoilt) British tourists...
I wouldn't be surprised if this was in Eire. Because... Many years ago, whilst working in Dublin, I left the plant and as I prepared to turn right noticed a queue of vehicles waiting on the side of the road I was about to join but facing in the wrong direction, as it were. I looked again - to see opposite the turning, a petrol station. In the petrol station was a hearse - WITH COFFIN - and the driver was filling it with fuel. If that wasn't bizarre enough, the driver had full morning (mourning ?) suit on, nicely finished off with bright green knee length Wellies. The queue of vehicles was of course the funeral procession. Only in Eire !
Just how low does the UK government want to see its international reputation sink to? https://www.theguardian.com/environ...oea-in-sunderland-race?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
