I just watched the highlights, and the outpouring of affection and sadness on Cav’s behalf, and frustration that he won’t break Eddie Merckx’s record, from just about everyone in the peloton, former riders, Christian Proudhomme, and all the commentary team, was just wonderful. The lasting image of this Tour, though, whatever happens in the next two weeks, will be that shot of Mark sitting in the ambulance, utterly devastated that his illustrious career in the Tour de France has ended so ignominiously. Maybe we should start a petition to encourage him to come back next year!
So pleased for McLaren. Would have been second and third, were it not for the safety car. They’ll struggle in Hungary, but great to see them back.
Lyudmyla Kichenok becomes the first ever Wimbledon champion from Ukraine by winning the mixed doubles final with Mate Pavic.
Who would the crowd have backed if Alcaraz was playing either Nadal or Federer on the other side of the net, and not Djokovic?
Are we seeing the end of a dynasty whereby the reigns of Djoko, Nadal and Federer that lasted twice the time span of former champions(15 years or more in the case of Nadal) coming to an end? In the past, great players like Sampras and Borg reigned supreme for maybe six or eight years. If Alcaraz does win, it is befitting that Nadal has claim to be the greatest on clay, Federer on grass and Djoko on hard.
