    Quite, quite..

There's no finer feeling than giving the hounds that first whiff of polyester and Ginsters pastry to set them on the trail!

This <ok> I'm Liberal in every sense of the word i.e. Socially and economically and think people should be free to do as they will, taxes should be low and the government should be as small and own as little as possible. But even I am pragmatic enough to know that the ''left'' has given some good, you've already named the examples. It's just the sense of entitlement some of these people have which really pisses me off tbh, and the fact that people are evil and should have the living **** taxed out of them because they are rich and successful and have something they don't.

Aye, Hong Kong have a very interesting tax system where by (again, this is only as far as I understand it) people who earn below a certain amount, for arguments sake lets say £8k a year, don't pay tax, then anyone above that pays a flat rate of 17%, the more you earn the more you're taxed, but you're not punished for earning any more or less, you'll still have the same percentage, but the harder you work, the more you'll have...Cuts out the majority of the 'bracket' ****e which inevitably leaves people being stung by the system.

Also (I don't know if this is the case but I'd certainly implement it if we adopted this system ourselves) would be that the lowest earning tax payers (i.e. those who pay 17% on their £8k annual earnings) are subsidised so they are not worse off than those are not taxed - thus creating an insentive for them which at the minute, is eradicated by tax brackets...

Can't honestly say I know much about Hong Kong's tax system but it sounds like an interesting concept and I will probably look at it in some depth at some point. <ok>

Yes I am that dull <laugh>

I agree with the protesters to a point.

A balance needs to be found. In the USA, the highest earners (the 1%) pay less tax (relative to their income) than the middle/working class due to tax breaks. If someone earns 60k a year in the states, they will pay 50%, but the CEO earning 5 million a year will only pay 25% tax..... now that is a broken system.

If they taxed the 1%, say 75% tax the buggers will still have more money in their pocket than I have after 10+ years work.

Earning 1 million after-tax would still be enough incentive for me to become a CEO - i wouldnt need to earn 3 million after-tax for me to be motivated.

And these protests arent anti-capitalist, they are anti-corporate greed. The protests, like me, think a balance should be found - they are not saying we should abandon capitalism.

That's the problem though, I agree with you but the crusty fella sat on the Monument with a **** banner doesn't have a ****ing clue what you're on about. If he did he'd be outside somewhere with a financial link instead of trying to get high on the smell of scented bath bombs coming out of Lush.

If you have the time, watch a program on 4od called Britains Trillion Pound Horror Story (EDIT: in fact, here's a link http://www.channel4.com/programmes/britains-trillion-pound-horror-story/4od)...It's a little right leaning in places, but basically points out loads of common sense things which are somehow becoming more complicated than need be...It's also where I got the info on the Hong Kong tax system!

Thought it was great to see that at the protest camp by St Paul's they used thermal imaging cameras to see how many people were in the camps at night, turns out most of the tents were empty and all the "right on's" were buggering off home at night.

Aye, as Colly said, what you're saying is entirely fair and entirely worthy of campaign. But I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the lads who are/were outside St Paul's had a little trip down to Dale Farm, have set up camp outside a nuclear power plant and have been known to throw the odd pot of paint at the odd animal testing facility worker...Am I stereotyping here? Yes of course, but my point is that these people aren't being entirely pro-active in their protestation of the system. Why not spend their time designing and developing a taxation system which would appeal to the 99% and take advantage of the current zeitgeist, utilise the global interest, and make use of the various different forms of none governmental regulated social media to spread it, creating a wave of public outcry which forces the hand of the ruling 1%...Instead of sitting in a park!

Load of ****e for me, shoot them for all I care. I believe we do need to address the imbalances in our fiscal systems worldwide but this is a **** way of going about it, and it won't make a jot of difference. And if they're ****ing off home on a nighttime, how can I respect their crusade? Burn them.

Great idea. By burning 1% of them you keep the other 99% warm which is almost what they were after in the first place.

I'm sure there are some that are really there for the cause, but I would reckon that a few of them are just jobless layabout ****s with nothing better to do. I bet some of them leave on a morning to get their dole too.

"It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it." - George Carlin

I agree that extreme views on either side piss me off, although extreme right wingers are far more dangerous. I'm definitely left politically, but, generally, everyone's a **** in politics.

I agree with the protests - but you when you have a rich minorty controlling the poorer majority nothing will ever happen, that's the ****e of a world we live in. The hypocrisy that has been pointed out is humorous, though
