Scarborough's Holbeck Hall Hotel has less beds than any hotel in Portugal. :emoticon-0125-mmm:

I heard the Grand Hotel had more hotel beds than the whole of Portugal. Which it possibly might have had.

My plans too. We could share a duo ticket FLG?
Some more lesser known facts about Scarbourgh and Hull City, besides them buying City's old floodlights, the ones we had on top of the stands pre the six phylons, I hear HKR also bought their main stand when the McCain Stadium was demolished.
Before a similar pre season friendly with the seasiders 1969 era, Harry Watson of OPE fame was stabbed in an incident before the game involving City and Scarbourgh, although some said Leeds, fans. Made half a paragraph in the HDM at the time.
They worship the late Jeff Barmby, probably the best known footballer from this city who never actually played for City but headed the Ex- Tigers for many years.

The lad who did the stabbing, think it was 1971 ( I know Terry Neill was manager and we didn’t play them in 1970 the season Neill took over) and he was someone who had recently moved up with his parents from London and was trying to impress his new mates. That was his solicitors excuse anyway. Gordon M chased him under the main stand just as Don Robbie came out. Robbie seemed to think Gordon was some kind of public minded citizen when in fact he would have beaten the crap out of him if he had got the chance. Robbie took him in the boardroom for a couple of drinks, something he might not have done if he had known the pub up the road had shut early and had us all chucked out after calling the police because of the antics of Gord and a couple of his mates after Gord jumped over the bar and threatened to deck him if he didn’t put the jukebox back on. He objected to some skinhead stomp number being put on constantly.

    .
The last time I saw Gordon Moreton he was being pushed in a wheelchair by his mate to the front of the queue to board a North Sea Ferry to Amsterdam during the Dutch dash days. I saw him again in Amsterdam minus the wheelchair, but he returned to it for the home journey, and as a result he and his mate didn't have to queue with everyone else at customs.
Which also meant they didn't check him for excess duty free like everyone else, and he had stacks of it. Sadly he was a character we don't see on the terraces of today. Giant of a man and totally fearless. Remember us all chipping in for his fare on the away bus just to have him with us as protection.

4 towers in each corner for the 4 seasons.
12 floors for the 12 months in a year
365 rooms for the days in a year (they convert a small function room to a bedroom each leap year).
    Pretty cool FACTS.
Pity it's seen much better days..
ps I made the leap year bit up but the rest is true.

Last time I saw him was when I brought my eldest lad to a game when he was 17 so it must have been 26 years ago. Bumped into Dave Dewberry in Station, hadn’t seen him for years as he had stopped going to City and we went in Sandringham. Gord was in there and we had a chat. My lad said he wouldn’t liked to have tangled with him. I said you wold have fancied it less if you had seen him years ago with a shaven head. Though when he stood up you could tell he wasn’t in the greatest way.
Best thing I remember about Gord was after one match, I think it was Sheff United me and my little blond oppo saw him and some others facing off against them opposite Tuns and went across the road to give a hand. As the other lot got near most of the ones with him scarpered and it would have been a bit hairy with poor odds if the police hadn’t suddenly arrived on horseback. The reason I say the best thing was some time later a lad who was a bit younger at work asked if I wanted to go to some Radio One or something similar roadshow. There were a bunch of lads staring at him and Gord was with them.
The lad said oh **** one of them had found out he had been knocking his girlfriend off. This lad was saying to Gord that’s him the bastard…Gord said if he’s with him I am not getting involved and walked off. I knew this was because me and Whiff had gone to his assistance but did not explain that when the lad at work you should have seen the size of the bloke who didn’t want to have a go with him,<laugh>

Just after he’d done time for being about the first person in England to do the American thing of mugging someone - he offered me out n Centre Bar one night when I was with a lass , a mate of his persuaded him to leave it , he was a tall big fella , think he lived on The Quadrant , I’m no shortie , think it would have been a dodgy end to an evening!

Yes, he said to someone give us 50 p. I think his parents had thrown him out and he had no money. There had been a lot of stuff in the papers about this new mugging thing. In the way that is typical of the local plod they threw the book at him. What a contrast to the soft sentences you read about nowadays in the HDM to people with 50, 60 or 70 previous offences.

Harry Watson what a blast from the past that name is .Harry Watson and the Holmes shop Woodpecker Cider mob were certainly the stuff of legend to a young impressionable Orchard Park Lad .I remember a new newsagent taking over the shop in the Danes and trying to front them out when one Sunday morning when they tried taking what they wanted from his shop .I could only have been Eight or nine and stood watching the exchange let’s put it this way it didn’t end well for the new newsagent. The Holmes mob true legends on the brilliant place to grow up in the sixties and seventies OPE

Another name from the past and an equally big lad of those days was Frank Cuffe. Now sadly no longer with us. I remember him appearing at court for having the audacity to be caught wearing 'Dr. Marten Boots' in the centre of Hull. Or as the judge put it, 'wearing industrial climbing boots on the flat streets of Hull', as though it was a crime. He was fined for wearing them. Can you imagine that today?

yeah, very true. I was watching one of these crap 'Police Interceptors' type of programmes on the telly the other night...Some gobshite, in some rural craphole, smacked a copper, then headbutted some other bloke. Ended up getting tassered for his trouble. I thought chinning a cop, even in this day and age, was automatically jail time. He got 100 hours community service and a £200 fine.

On Gordon Morton, I knew his sister Wendy. Lived on Quadrant. Marten Grove next to the park. I recall GM helping himself to half a bag of my Chocolate Eclairs, on the train on the way home from Norwich. He was with his sidekicks. I just smiled.

We were in a bus at Norwich and saw Gordon marching up the road and deciding to take a whole bunch on who were giving it large outside a pub. Amazingly the police let him go on and go to the match.
