So, New York is in the news at the minute with many of the 'Occupy' tents being taken down and moved on, on the grounds of unsanitary, unhygienic conditions.

There's not a lot of footy based craic to be had, so I thought I'd gauge everyone's thought on this one...

A very basic background (as far as I understand it) is that this movement began in America, calling for a fairer distribution of the World's money. Claiming that the majority of America's wealth was owned by 1% and that they represent the other 99%...

Now I'd consider myself a fairly liberal person, being brought up in County Durham by parents who work in the public sector and are staunch labour voters, I would certainly not dismiss any ideas which promote a better social environment for the majority.

    HOWEVER

I do think that capitalism has become a dirty word and whilst greed should never be supported by the state nor celebrated as 'ingenuity' we, as a society should encourage success. The only way a business CAN succeed and grow is through profits.

So good people of N/E not606dom, are you supporting these brave crusaders in their quest to serve us, the lowly peasants, in a valiant fight against the cruel, tyrannical grip of unfair economic distribution, OR, are they just wannabe hippies who chain themselves to trees at the first opportunity, wasting their lives writing vegan paella dishes using an ink made from their own fermented bullshit?

Oh and just as an after thought...I wonder how many of the people in these camps tweeted about/updated their blogs on their hardships using their iPhones...Seems a little ironic when you consider, probably quite a few!

I don't even know anymore. I'm sure it says something about the US Government, which is a song by Black Rebel, are they playing?

That would be good. I like BRMC.

What are we talking about again?

It's a nice idea, but they're wasting their time. As much as they like to think they will, they're not going to change a ****ing thing.

I agree, I think in a lot of cases these people are as happy to be seen to be doing something, as they would be if they were achieving it!

To answer your question, I think they're mostly dicks. Like you said it's ironic how they all use the latest gadgets from mega-corporations such as Apple to spout their idealist hippy drivvel.

What motivation would anyone have to work if there were no reward? The evolution and progression of mankind and it's technologies would stagnate, the earth's population would increase to a point where demand would far outweigh supply and everyone would start believing in God again while the earth exploded in a fiery mess.

I may have got a little carried away there...

<laugh> This. Going on Facebook on their Apples to organise there anti-capitalism protests. Hypocritical twats.

''Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.'' Winston Churchill. Pretty much sums them up. <ok>

As a member of the 1% I'd like to say I don't care one jot. It won't change anything and now I'm off to bait some paupers.

    It's just nonsense:

"What do we want? End of capitalism! How do you propose that happens? Not sure but we'll camp for a bit!"

    Occupy Newcastle was laughable too.

Would it be okay if I got a lift old chap? My driver has taken the day off to tend to his lash wounds after the unfortunate 'crusted sandwich incident' and the thought of public transport makes me positively queasy.

Not nearly as much fun as rural tramp hunting, the terrain is far more difficult for them.

I don't think socialism in a more diluted state should be ignored, without it we wouldn't have the NHS, free education or benefit systems which, whilst being abused by some are essential to most!

Extreme views from either side piss me off. 'The American Dream' suggests that anyone can become a millionaire, when in reality hard work has to be combined with intelligence, skill or luck. At the same time, suggesting that those people who combine that hard work, intelligence, skill or luck should not be rewarded because others cannot or will emulate it is ridiculous. At the end of the day, no matter what job you do, you're selling something, be that a service you provide or a product you have sourced or produced. The main issue in all cases is believing that you DESERVE something...If you were suddenly given a pay rise (despite doing the exact same job, with no further responsibilities) within a few months you'd come to believe you DESERVED that money. It's the same with the bankers and their bonuses and the same with the leeches and their benefits!
