I wonder if this is why so many live on the street these days? In the early 1900's it got so hot on summer nights that families in New York had to improvise. Usually, it would get so hot inside it would become unbearable. Therefore, it was common for kids or even the entire family to sleep on their buildings' fire escapes or roofs.
