50 years ago on the first day of the Newmarket July meeting the 6f Fillies Maiden was won by Polygamy, ridden by Pat Eddery and trained by Peter Walwyn, on her second start. She won from Highclere, who was making her debut ridden by Joe Mercer and trained by Dick Hern.
A year later Highclere won the 1000G by a short head from Polygamy. She later also won the Prix de Diane. Polygamy went on to win the Oaks.

Highclere went on to be an important broodmare. Her daughter Height of Fashion is the ancestress of Nashwan (dam), Nayef (dam), Ghanaati (2nd dam), Baeed (5th dam) and Hukum (5th dam). Another daughter, Burghclere, is the ancestress of Deep Impact (2nd dam).

I wonder if we'll see a similarly important race today.

    Shoosh keep it quiet.

In the 3rd race I fancy Balding to win it. The problem is that he has two runners. I fancy Desert Cop over Frankness. EW.

Balding may also win the last

The 'Listed' Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket (16:45) over 1m. seems to be a pretty hot race. One cannot tell how good New Endeavour really is as the gelding is improving by leaps-and-bounds all the time. However, will stay with the Kingman colt, Nostrum, who is down in grade and must have an excellent chance on past form? Ryan Moore on board for the Sir Michael Stoute team.

3/1 (Wm.Hill/Coral) is the best price at time of writing.

Jasour looked very impressive. Havana Grey is some sire. Despite his relaxed style of racing from his pedigree you'd expect him to be a 6f/7f max horse. Traces back to Haymaking, a racefilly a few people might remember (well Ron and Tam).

Very impressive from Nostrum, just love this colt. What a turn of foot, absolutely clobbered 'em. :emoticon-0142-happy :bandit:
(3/1 turned-out to be a heck of an early-doors price)
