It is and it isn't. I think it can certainly be abused, but from what I've seen those trying to get aspects of it installed do so for reasons that in theory should (in theory) benefit people, and they don't really tend to be competent enough to do it in a way that would produce data meaningful enough to generate the controls a lot of people fear.

A lot of the stuff I've seen on conspiracy sites doesn't match what existing systems could handle. Just look at the gaping holes and best guesses in the health data for covid for one example of how poor national data collection is.

The biggest threat to personal freedom in the way these sites are trying to portray it are mobile phones and the trackers that already exist in cars, and people seem to make very little fuss, and seem to go out of their way to provide as much data as they can.

There are things happening that will give the powers that be more access to data.

    Digital Currency

    Digital ID
    Digital Passport
Both linked to digital medical information

add that to CCTV, facial recognition tech, car, phone, internet data being consumed , it all adds up to a lot of information on you.

The alternative theories about this are not saying it’s going to happen immediately. It will take time.
    A decade ? Maybe more ?

But eventually they’ll have all the data they need .

as I said , could be for or benefit but long term , imo , all about control .

They already have much of that now, and people routinely sign up for more. Loyalty cards, the data gathered from your internet use etc etc. It's amazing what you can already find out about someone with very limited information and that's without access to the specialised sites and data bases, and there are people that are experts in discerning patterns from data that doesn't immediately look as if it's relevant or robust. There are examples on the web, and they are very impressive.

You only have to look up your family tree to see how much you can deduce from paper trails that are well over 100 years old if you apply a bit of rational or intuitive thinking, so add in all the extra data that they already have and the implications are mind blowing, but the average person is only ever liable to notice the benefits.

As we've seen already, banks and other institutions such as insurance agencies, tax offices etc, are already electronic data heavy, and even boookies just use algorithms now.

They've tried SMART cities and SMART motorways and several other so called SMART concepts, and they've all crashed and burned in the UK. Most of the data bases can't communicate with each other, even if the data managers for each would allow it. Even local NHS data bases can't talk to neighbouring ones, and are often in differing formats, and like all the others, rely on the accuracy of the data being put into it in the first place.

Point being, there isn't really that much more data that they'd need to do all of the things the conspiracy sites fear, in fact they could already do far, far more and it could be done in a way that would never really even be noticed. The reality is that with a few exceptions, they don't, and when they've tried, they've found themselves running foul of the law.

It's not the data collection you need to fear, it's the laws in place to protect it that any actions should focus on.

I’d be terrified if I had the search history of some of this board.

    Give me a price on

I don’t need a passport to go from Muswell Hill to Palmers Green, but it now takes forever to drive there due to the new LTN (Low Traffic Neighbourhood). I’m all for reducing car journeys in cities, but they’ve ****ed this one right up imo.

Don’t worry granddad, whatever it is you won’t be able to turn it on. Or indeed, off.

Banks are already shutting branches so relying on your 'tap and go' card is more common. The use of cash is dwindling and the young kids will have no idea of physical money soon.

    And they couldn't care less.

It's the old gammons that fear it. Their link to the "good old days," is hanging by a thread.

Always a good idea to have a bit of cash on you in case the tech doesn’t work but yeah I don’t get the mass fear of contactless payments.

People say cash helps them keep track of spending but surely an app that records exactly where and when you spend does that infinitely better.

Despite all the time they've been stalking, they've still yet to work out what's so funny, as they have no idea what's going on. <laugh>
