I think the problem is that the majority of today's fans don't remember a time when footballers got relatively normal wages and ordinary people could afford to follow them without breaking the bank. They've grown up in the money era and think someone who can kick a ball well has an inalienable right to be a multi-millionaire and how dare you question it.
an few years after he retired an England international and league winner had a milk round near where i lived as a kid .
He’s 33, not very good or marketable and coming off the back of an awful season. We should be paying them to get him off our books! And agree that we will lose a lot of experience but both fab and Hendo were really poor last season because they have lost the physical attributes that made them successful. That won’t be coming back.
if those figures are correct Lavia would cost all of it so we would have 2 less midfielders than last season .
Matip was poor VVD was poor Trent for a large chunk was poor Jones was Poor Robbo was poor Tsimi was poor Jota was poor in short the squad was poor Even Thiago was poor but you seem hell bent on focusing on Hendo Weird By the crazy logic of Hendo was poor we should give him away we need to be looking at a massive wedge of the squad it almost feels like you have been waiting for Hendo to offer a glimmer of weakness and you are onto him - then in the meantime you seem oblivious to the likes of Tchou being a bit of an issue. The guy is at R. Madrid - biggest club in the world - they don’t seem to want him and no alarm bells ring. Yet Hendo who has given everything he has got to us (his time maybe up with us but I don’t think he deserves the vitriol you clearly have towards him) gets zero credit - as I say I just find it weird. I am sorry cause I know that sounds like a rant And I agree with a lot of what you have to say I just can’t get my head around this one each to their own and all that
Hendo was the worst player last season He’s on a huge contract He’s only going to get worse He’ll get less minutes We have to be ruthless and get rid of him. also Thiago wasn’t poor, he was our best midfielder last season (when he played) And I don’t mean to focus on Hendo. I feel Thiago and fab also need to be upgraded as well. Regarding Tchou - very talented players can struggle for whatever reason. The same way average players can look good at one club. We wanted Tchou before he moved to Real for a very good reason - because hes one of the few midfielders who can do everything at a high level. If Jude struggles in his first season at Real, does this mean he’s a **** player?
half the figures "quoted" are just out & out guesses for example Koulibali was quoted at £40m offer yet just like Mendy the actual figure is now thought to have been between 15-20M each.
More about the package than transfer fee... £10m fee + saving £170k PW for two years means him leaving is worth £27.7m to us (Example only, don't know his wage or contract length) But yes, I agree the initial fee seems low
Rumours circulating that Al Ettifaq are "willing to triple his £200k wages" suggests they're not going to be overly fussed about the transfer fee tbf... Perspective; £600k per week is £31.2m per annum and they're talking about a 2-3yr deal. They're not going to argue about paying £10m-£20m for him!
'Henderson weighing up Liverpool future amid Al Ettifaq interest' http://www.skysports.com/share/12920183 I think that's quite a fair article
i think it hits the nail on the head. either your causes are important to you or money is. they are very quick to jump to conclusions based on the press stating something so jordan henderson either says nothing and accepts this is the turth or comes out and says absolutely no i stand by my causes and 25mil is not that interesting to me.
I wouldn't believe anything he says tbh. If Hendo goes then it's potential good for Liverpool (we clearly need to sell before recruiting anyone else) but I'll be disappointed in Hendo; there are more important things in life than money.
Henderson wasn't the worst, fab takes that title by some way I'd say. Thiago definitely wasn't the best. I'd give that particular award to bajectic, which show quite what a **** show the midfield was. I thought elliot and baj did well in a poorly functioning team, even jones was decent ( I really dont think he's good enough) Arguing over who was the biggest **** show Henderson, thiago or fab is absolutely pointless, all three where ****e. I'd keep fab because he's still relatively young, not fussed on Henderson, but I do appreciate what he's given to the club. Wish we'd bever signed thiago, very pretty to watch but absolutely pointless in our team
My feelings entirely. Henderson is an icon and has been a GREAT captain, and will be in our Hall of Fame. I think if he and Fab (be honest, Fab was ****e last season bar one or two games) were to go and we got Lavia and Thurham, then that is just evolution and progress. We should have started rebuilding that midfield in 2020 when we were at our zenith, especially after we let Windy go (a decision I approved of because I thought we had a like-for-like replacement lined up - not Thiago). But if we're letting them go just to get the wage bill down and get £40m a piece from the Saudis, well it's good business, but not necessarily good business for the squad. Don't forget either that in effect we'll be starting with a whole new midfield next season if they both go, and that will take some bedding in. Getting £40m for Fab is an offer to good to miss at this stage of his career though, and if we can trust JH to re-invest. On the captain business, obviously, it'll be Virgil if/when Hendo goes (or doesn't play), but even Virgil looks like he's going to need replacing next season. At the moment his obvious successor in the short term is Robbo, but even he looks like he's not guaranteed to get a game every match if we go to 3 at the back. So, is it not time to get the eventual successor (we hope) in place? A Scouser born and bred, and someone (hopefully) with another 10 years of glory in front of him? Step up Trent Alexander Arnold - you were born to captain this team, and from a driving, free, roving role in midfield too.
