Pretty much underlines my point.... Not for everyone, but for some, its life changing. For others..such as footballers, its just a huge final pay day. Yes they have money, but the lifestyle they lead is expensive, this will secure that lifestyle...There is no moral choice, its pure financial for them.

All great points as usual Prehab, which is why I think he cannot possible go over there. I would make a mockery of everything he stood for!!!

Henderson and the others are endangering the landscape of football and should be called out. Same with the Liv golfers. Absolute scum the lot of them

Fully agree. Would lose a lot of respect within the game. Not cool.

Same, not a chance I would go there to work even though I'm on a pretty average wage and skint most of the time.

It's a backwards state with ideas and religious beliefs stuck in the middle ages.

This actually made me laugh out loud. You have clearly never been to this region, which is no big deal or issue, but to prejudge a whole area based on some preconceived ideas which isn't born out of any reality is just funny. Where I currently live in Abu Dhabi is one of the cleanest, advanced open societies I have ever lived in. To compare it to say Houghton le Spring ...where I come from is laughable. But I often say its all about opinions and you certainly have yours.

Disappointed if he does go over but hes got to do what he believes is right for him n his family. Surely ends his chances of being in the England squad for the euros, i know the standard will improve with tje money they are investing but currently the standard is shocking.

Anyway enough of that, heres hoping for some transfer news for us before the weekend

Aye like I said last night, I don’t think I’d go but I can’t say for sure.

I wouldn’t look to go there but if someone says ‘here’s 4 times your salary’ given I’m aiming to retire at 55 there’d be a decision to make.

As I say it’s the ‘How’s much do you need’ thing for me. If I had millions in the bank why on earth would I choose to live in Saudi?

I much more understand Flanders re Abu Dhabi/Dubai (although have visited both and wasn’t for me, preferred Abu to Dubai by a distance) I get when they go MLS.

I suppose we have to co aider that all counties do some shady ****. What we don’t want is a younger generation thinking this shady **** is alright when we seem to be going through a great time of awareness and potential change.

Here's my attempt to get us back on track about Sunderland transfers (other threads are available :emoticon-0105-wink:)

Tony Mowbray confirming we are looking at "experienced" signings.

Cant see how a 'sportsman' can go over there and play in a league where 4 of the clubs are owned by PIF. Its not really a sport over there is it?

Fair do's mate, I'm basing this purely on what is projected by media etc. Will hold my hands up and admit I've never been and never fancied it...you do have a point about Houghton-le-Spring :emoticon-0100-smile

Dangerous times for football and sport with the Saudis involved. They've basically bought golf and they will try to do same with football.

Pleased to hear Mowbray confirming this. Some fans think we wouldn’t entertain any thoughts of signing anyone over 25, and quote the ‘model’ without any real understanding of what it is. Never thought there would be any such naivety that the club would rule out acquiring a decent player, who would benefit our squad and system because they were a couple of years older.

    Not really.

He can go if he wants. But it would be vomit inducing to hear one more cloying word from him on racism or LGDEVVHVC+- . At least if goes there as a full on supporter of that ever extending alphabet, he can cleave to his new masters and say, "Look, I'm anti gay too!". Which of course the alphabet is.

Just go, take the filthy lucre and keep quiet in your castle. That applies to all of them and all those at Saudi on Tyne and Abhu City .

Might be waiting until some other clubs have done their thing if we are looking to loan.

Mind they've been pretty good at getting players since they came so that should allow some confidence.

That's fair enough. As long as we hear no more moral strictures from them in the future, as we have in the past.

Why can't these discussions be moved into new "Henderson to Saudi" thread or at least into the "Non Safc Transfer" thread?

Experience in the middle of the park is a must, can't rely on Evans lasting a full season.

To be honest football has got itself in this ****. As it has all been about money and the use of it to abuse power for decades - FIFA, Murdoch,’on and on you could go. It has got itself into a position where it is valueless and simply owned by money and that includes the mindset of the players and their agents of greed. They can’t start whinging now because it’s from another continent. They just happen to be able to waste even more than the others.
