http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3935202/Grant-McCann-on-the-move.html central midfielder i am right in saying? if so, we really dont need him and probably isnt good enough for the prem anyway thoughts?
I tend to agree with you that he isn't good enough for the Premiership, but then I didn't believe he was good enough at the top end of L1, and he proved me wrong - and I didn't think he was going to be good enough for the Championship, and he's pretty much proving me wrong. But I do certainly agree that we don't really need him. We're not short of options in central midfield, and his best asset is set-pieces - which with Fox and Lambert in the side, is also not something which we are short on. That said, I'm not going to be disappointed if we did sign him. He'd be another option, another body.
I agree with all the above, and certainly, I have often been surprised when his name has cropped up time and again, in positives scenarios for Peterborough. Where would he fit in..? I really don't know, but if Saints want to have 2 good players for every position, then I suppose he's worth a go. Another surprise is that Boro rate him at £500K, according to that article. I would have though a bit more, myself. He's a bit crucial to their upward progression.
A load of rubbish. A complete non-story and yet more pointless, inane bollocks from a red-top rag. Don't believe a word of it.
That's true, but it can't have escaped your notice that we're pushing for it, and you don't go after players who are only going to be good enough for Championship level, at best.
Apart from the headline, this is what it says, in full... PETERBOROUGH skipper Grant McCann is set for a January move to Southampton. Posh owner Darragh Macanthony has said any player can leave at the right price and will listen to offers for the midfielder, who is rated at £500,000.
He played under Adkins at Scunny (he was part of their promotion team second time around, before then helping to keep them in the Championship the following season), so I would guess that this is The Sun's starting point. Manager linked to one of his ex-players - pretty simplistic, and easy to come up with.
Just checking that I hadn't missed the bit where they explain how this unquoted quote proves that their story is as good as fact.
I wonder if we could create a list of players that have been linked with us that have played under Adkins at Scunthorpe. I'm starting to loose count...
This story is not inane. It's worse than that (super-inane?) and no-one should glance at The Sun (Hillsborough and all that!)
im quite aware of that but seeing as we are top, january targets will surely be with the potential of playing the in the prem
We're not short in CM and I don't think he's better enough than what we already have to be worth signing. Probably just some lazy sports journo linking us to a player that Adkins managed at Scunny.
This categorically will not happen. Spiderman, Cork, Chaplow, Hammond, James Ward-Prowse, Lallana and Guly (can) all play central midfield; As st_brendy said we already have two very good set piece takers in the form of Lambert and Foxy and in truth there really is no need for him in the squad let alone the first team. Very very good player whose done tremendously well with Peterborough thus far but suits the 'big fish, little pond' stereotype - if he came to us he'd just be another fish in a sea of other fishes - many of which are better than him. Didn't impress me much at St.Mary's either.
