That wouldn't be the bloke who rarely falls out with anyone spoiling for a fight again, would it?

    That's fair enough mate.

    I don't think I'm saying anything outrageous.

If he's really suffering from serious mental health issues, and the BBC have been aware for years, I don't think they should he putting him on duties like the Queen's funeral. That's about as highly pressurised as it gets for a presenter.

I find that uncaring tbh, sorry you can't see my point.

If these issues had been handled better I don't believe the Sun would've published anything in the first place imo ...

... either way the BBC haven't come out of this with any credit.

End of story as you say.

Exactly! BBC has said they will learn from mistakes…utter bollocks, they didn’t with Schofield and they wont this time.

It’s their fault it’s gotten to this.

Not sure BBC carries any blame for ITV's failures over the Schofield affair

He has spoken about (living) depression and I believe has had treatment for it.

I noticed that Alistair Campbell was on one of the news programmes, he had suffered (and does still,) from depression

So I believe and for many years.

All I'm saying is that the BBC has to share some kind of responsibility.

He's either not stable enough to carry out stressful duties without his health, and private life suffering ...

... or he is stable enough in which case it wouldn't therefore excuse inappropriate behaviour

Or he's done nothing inappropriate at all and the Sun have a big problem on their hands.

As things stand none of us can say.

If you’ve never suffered from depression you can’t know how it changes you. Happily I’ve been free for many years but I remember how it turned me into a worthless piece of **** who was probably better off dead. And if I did something stupid and despicable it’s because that was who I was at the time. Luckily nothing illegal.
I thought Huw Wheldon was pompous and boring, but I imagine right now he despises himself and everything about what he’s done. No doubt it will all be revealed in due course.

It's a pity that the BBC had to prodded into investigating at all.

Without the Sun's story, for which no payment was requested by the parents, they would no doubt have done the same as they had done in the previous seven weeks; nothing, apart from one e mail and one phone call.

They have so much form for covering this stuff up they cannot be trusted. If he was doing this, there absolutely must be people at the BBC who knew his private life was other than typical for a high profile public figure.

The BBC danced on the grave of Schofield's career only weeks ago.(For doing far less by the way). Headline news every night. They have enjoyed exposing politicians and other public figures down the years of behaviour which was legal but deplorable. They are hoist by their own petard.

There were people at the BBC who knew about Saville. Knew about Bashir. Knew about Harris. And so on. There will probably be people at the BBC who knew about Edwards, but do not expect apology or repentance from them.

Continuing to support the BBC by paying a licence fee is complete nonce sense.

I'm going to keep on at this, but what do you mean by 'knew about Edwards"? What has he done exactly?
He's not a legislator, or someone who makes moral judgement on others. What has he done?

You're right about the BBC laughing it up about Schofield.

Now Edwards has become the victim in this case.

In the meantime two young people have been totally forgotten about while various celebrities shed crocodile tears about two other celebrities ...

... and much of the public will go along with it because they're star struck.
