Well from what I saw in the 2nd half, players who you expect to be comfortable with the ball were Youth players all looked promising Smallbone looking pretty good Great to see Tino back Same issues from the others Sally was the start point for the passing and that's obviously a problem Djenepo always flatters to deceive, still king of the pointless step-overs Strikers were anonymous RM will be working out who can play his system and who can't
They’re a very decent team. Champions league quarter finalists weren’t they? Great to test ourselves early & set the standard tbh
Did Tall Paul make the bench? I honestly think he would do better in the possession style football then people think. Especially if we have manning/Tino getting crosses in.
Im not to sure, They didn't announce the subs, Only the 11 that were due to start each half. A few players didn't play today had been with the group before namely, Diallo, Tella, Edozie and Tall Paul.
Agree, a lot of the build up play was from the back and through the midfield and the strikers who did play yesterday were not relied upon much to hold the ball up. We did manage to get the ball in good positions out wide and then the wingers like SAA either didn’t cross or struggled to pick out Mara. You’d like to hope Tall Paul would at least give even top level defenders something to think about.
Caught large snippets whilst working from home. Good start from the coach in my eyes, you can see that the players have been working on his style and:after the previous two coaches, this is a welcome ability in the dug out. It felt like it was a big opportunity for the academy lads who got the most amount of minutes. With the game at St George’s Park and broadcast it was a chance to not only try and impress Martin, but other coaches who might take them on loan. IMO Doyle & SAA should be part of the squad next season, I think they’re ready to be solid squad players. With Mannings arrival, I think it’s fair on Meghoma to go out on loan. Dibling is an interesting player, This is only the second time I have seen him play. This is by no means a talent comparison btw, but in style he reminds me of MLT or Ronaldo in the fact he has that directness and selfishness about him. He can appear pretty anonymous, but when he does get the ball in a bit of space in the final third he will make something happen. I didn’t think Mara did himself any favors on yesterdays showing and you wonder whether Martin will be tempted to clear the striker decks and bring someone in.
No actual subs, rolling subs from the starters in each half, no Tall Paul Saints first half: McCarthy, Bree, Lyanco, Stephens, Maghoma, Alcaraz, Ward-Prowse, Doyle, Amo-Ameyaw, Mara, Dibling. Saints second half: Bazunu, Livramento, Ćaleta-Car, Salisu, Walker-Peters, Smallbone, Lavia (Doyle 75), A. Armstrong, Amo-Ameyaw (Dibling 70), Adams, Djenepo.
Did I spot Sulemana in the white cap? Also, Tella wasn't anywhere.. probably couldn't mean anything but I do wonder if he is gone now.
Just saw a photo of Tella too at the airport with the rest of them flying off to Turkey. We must need a big plane to fit all the players on it!
