Exciting though this is, what odds would you get on any side winning 7 consecutive home games in general? That's how far we are from this record. I'd possibly leave it until we've won 24 straight before talking about it (although like you, I am drawing a blue line under each and every home win and adding another line to the tally!).
I can't find the record for most home wins in a season in all of Europe unfortunately. However, I have found the record for longest unbeaten home run in domestic competition. That belongs to Real Madrid who went an incredible 121 home matches without loosing from February 17th 1957 to March 7th 1965- An astonishing achievement!
I wouldn't say it was a bigger feat, than BPA's effort, as every team is of similar quality. One thing though, if they won 25 home games on the trot, then they went through a season's worth of home games. However, they obviously started somewhen during a particular season and finished their amazing run somewhen later on the following season. Hence not being 100% at home in either season. Bit of a shame really.
Incidently, on the subject of records. Swindon finally ended Huddersfield's amazing unbeaten away record on the weekend. 23 matches unbeaten on the road! They hadn't lost a match away from home in a all competitions since they played us in December 2010! Too bad most of those matches were draws, otherwise they might have been in with a shout for automatic promotion last season!
Wasn't it Home as well..? I mean, weren't they just unbeaten, in the league [not including playoffs] for a heck of a long time, anyway..?
No, they lost away in the Carling Cup back in August. Their current sequence going, which dates to back to them losing that game away to us, is unbeaten league games. Think it now stands at 43 (might be 42, might be 44). Not that it's done them much good. When they lost to us back on 28th December 2010, they were in 3rd place in L1. 40-odd unbeaten games later, and they are in 2nd place in L1. They've moved up one whole place!
Just checked: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/table/default.stm Huddersfield are still unbeaten, in the league, this season. I haven't got time now, but perhaps someone can find out when they were last beaten in the league, excluding playoffs.
We weren't unbeaten between Jan and May 2011, but we still beat them to 2nd place (despite coming up from behind them). Charlton aren't unbeaten so far between August and now, but they are still 5 points clear of them right now (despite starting level with them).
Thanks for clearing that up! So it seems Huddersfield are unbeaten in the league yet can't avoid defeat in the cup. As I said before, a lot of the matches in their unbeaten run were draws. If they could have converted some of them into wins, they would have finished in the top 2!
Exactly. But Lee Clark appears to be a manger who prefers not to lose, rather than going for the win at the risk of defeat. Draws are absoloutely no problem if you're lower down the table, but they are next to useless at the top end of table - especially when there's only a small group of you at the top, as was the case in L1 last season (slightly different this season for us, where there are so many sides involved and hence if you draw, you probably wont be the only side to have drawn - and moreover, many teams will be playing each other, so points will be dropped there too). Huddersfield are comfortably good enough for the Championship, but a negative manager - coupled, to a degree, with coming up two very strong opponents last season - has cost them a Championship place so far, imo.
