Huw Edwards is the highest-earning star to receive a pay rise in this year’s BBC salary list, as the total wage bill for top talent rose to a six-year high.

The news anchor rose from sixth place to fourth, to a salary of £435,000-£439,000. His £25,000 pay rise took into account the extra news specials he led over the past year, including the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

The BBC blamed this on the cost of living crisis and a long-term shift in viewing habits towards rival streaming services.
