There is some poor deluded soul over on the Baadiff board who thinks with one more signing ( a Nigerian winger), he thinks they will be dead certs for promotion. Oh how I laughed<laugh><laugh><laugh>

TBF he does have an odd persistent optimistic streak in him that the majority of us don't share.
He also has a weird outlook on the game in general which is hard to fathom at times... I'd even go so far as to say he occasionally gets as carried away as you boys when you are on one of your good streaks....

The winger he's referring to though could be quite a coup if we can pull it off (I have my doubts and suspect if a bigger/better club come in for him he may decide to go elsewhere).

Our squad is starting to shape up quite well so far though with some promising new additions despite our restrictions.

Gotta say, I'm loving the Taffy bashing from you guys... Finish above us for a couple of seasons in a row and you think you're head and shoulders above us whilst quite conveniently forgetting the something like 12 previous years when you languished behind us... :emoticon-0140-rofl:

As one of you chaps said, new season, clean slate.

Lots of changes our side with more signings to come.... Looking like more of the same for you guys (I look forward to the "it's all LJs fault" and "Pearson's changed nothing" threads when you have your inevitable poor run <cheers>

Should be a fun season again.

The past is the past, it’s the now that counts.
You’d better hope we don’t go for the winger you’re after then. <laugh><laugh>

Apparently, this Nigerian winger sent the Tanman, an email, saying give me an expensive contract and I’ll deliver you millions in return<laugh><laugh>

Guess that'd be like all LJ's signings then from what I read on your boards... millions wasted to achieve nothing. Never mind, it may be your year at some point (though I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you).

Absolutely that... the past is the past, and last season is the past.... clean slate, off we go again...

As for the winger, I said bigger/better... I guess by dint of finishing a few points ahead of us last season you could be deemed as a better side, though the head to head was even and over a longer, more sustained period we've been seen to be the better side... but bigger/more successful I'm afraid you are not...

IF IF we sell Scott for big money and get in another 2 or 3 then I'd say we'd have a chance of the play offs.
Otherwise it'll probably be a mid table finish as the bookies predict.

We seem to be bucking the trend for once with us being ahead of the game and buying what looks like, at least on paper, reasonable quality players BEFORE the season starts.

An experienced keeper, and a striker to complement TC and be an option when Wells is off form would make me think we could challenge for a top 8 spot and build some momentum for the season after.

spot on and I hope Nige is able to do the extra business. I think we would be right in the mix if he was able to.

Where do you think you’ll finish?, I obviously don’t follow your comings & goings, but I thought you had an embargo. I hope not , but I fear you may struggle again this year.

I’ve a good feeling about this season, it seems to me our business has been very good this window, along with the togetherness we’d managed to build at the end of last season I’m optimistic for this season, I’m also hopeful with a pre season behind them Mehmeti and Cornick will improve. We’re stronger than last season so provided the newbie’s are up to speed quickly I see no reason why we won’t have a good season. Top 10, pushing for top 6 is not
Over optimistic. I’d prefer we keep Scott, just a keeper now and we’ll be ready to go. COYR

Think a few are forgetting that the players we’ve got are really only replacements to players leaving.
    Dickie replaces Kalas
    McCrorie replaces Wilson
    Roberts replaces Dasilva
    Knight probably replaces King, HNM

We may be better in 3 of the replacements but we are still an injury or two away from the same issues we had last season after Man City.

TBH mate I'm anticipating a mid table finish, IF we can bring in a couple more of our managers targets before season kick off.

From the little snippets thus far in pre-season I suspect we'll be a little more robust defensively and will be able to pose more of a threat at the top end of the pitch too (our biggest failing last season)

Last season was massively disjointed (3 different managers) and injuries to key players, including some early season ending ones hampered us even further.

Hopefully with a little more luck in the injury front and a bit more recruitment then we'll have a much more comfortable season.

I'm not banking on troubling the promotion spots too much but anything around 10th would be very welcome.

these 2 quotes point out the comparisons of who we have brought in to "replace" those likely to have left /are gone, so independant [ US INDIVIDUALLY ] opinion is what we think .. is it an improvement or just a case of covering over the gaps! with what is deemed equal or potentially better.
I must say I am not impressed to the degree of euphoria. Looking at other teams transfers in and out we are not doing to bad but still about an average team on paper. TEAM is the key word and teamwork the absolute, to be successful.
Getting the motion going in a positive way will bring in the odd extra point or 2 that might not have been expected.
Last season Luton/ Coventry/ Millwall at first glance looked like pretty average teams going into the AUGUST KO ! teamwork prevailed and but for Millwall's home defeat last game could have been 3/4 qtrs of the playoff's, and how lucky were Cardiff and QPR!

This season we see astute dealings already among teams that are like contenders for top 8 positions or so will COVENTRY, MILLWALL and SUNDERLAND compete as well as last season ... bearing in mind the 3 from THE PREM and likes of MIDDSBRO., WATFORD, WBA and NORWICH are all going to be trying to make up for last seasons disapointments ... are we BCFC as good as any of them?? time will tell how many if any but in my opinion a big leap forward is needed to finish top 12!! ... on paper anyway

It was good that the foundations were laid in the first four seasons and with Covid etc out of the way and a few dodgy seasons, :emoticon-0105-wink: I don't see why with the work put in by NP & co why we shouldn't be looking at top 6......anything less than mid-table would be a massive disappointment IMO.. :emoticon-0103-cool:

science always says you dont get something from nothing or it is a balancing act of 2 expectations! In this case on one side you have massive disappointment so to balance that you need a massive euphoria!!

what will season 2023/24 bring! the fulcrum is 12th or 13th! we were clearly bottom half last season so need to be at least 10th or we will have failed again and maybe bye bye NP?

Despite our recent signings, and much though I'd like to think we could do so, I just don't see us finishing in the top 6.
To do that we are going to have to play 46 games like they are cup ties against better opposition.
    But perhaps that's Nige's plan ?

We won’t be top 6 this season imo, but agree that if we are not top half, then it’s a massive fail. We can’t keep saying it’s a season of transition, or building for the future. At some point we have to progress in the here and now, and for me, that starts this season.

We have to aspire for top 6.
If we fail to achieve it but give it a good go then fair enough, but we shouldn’t AIM for mid table.
This is Nigel’s team now. We have to go for it.
