I'm not sure how much engagement it's going to get due to the times, but here it is anyway. I doubt I'll be commenting much myself, to be honest. Fixtures: Tottenham v West Ham, Tuesday 18th July 12pm, Optus Stadium, Perth, Australia. Tottenham v Leicester, Sunday 23rd July 11am, Rajamangala National Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand. Tottenham v Roma, Wednesday 26th July 12.30pm, Singapore National Stadium, Singapore. Tottenham v Shakhtar Donetsk, Sunday 6th August 2pm, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London. There are question marks about the Roma tie going ahead, as the money might fall through. That leaves a very unremarkable looking set of fixtures, in my opinion. Not impressed.
Absolutely buzzing for the first glimpse of Ange’s Spurs tbh, even with the usual pre-season caveats.
If Roma is called off, which appears likely 3 matches in pre-season is a very light work load when you think about the significant amount of change required to move from where we have been for the last 3 seasons into Ange's brave new world. Mason made comment whilst he was in charge about how difficult it was changing the mindset of the players to stop them just retreating once we were ahead. And with player movements in and out on the cards we are very likely to be undercooked going into a season that starts with 2 very difficult matches.
I'm surprised we're not playing any of the local teams while on tour, especially given how big Ange is out there. Is it mid season for them or something? As others have said, it's a worryingly threadbare preseason but then I am always reminded about our pre season under Ramos that had me convinced we'd challenge for the title and 12 games later there we were in the relegation zone.
My boys and I are going to the Shakhtar Donetsk match and we are looking forward to seeing the changes made by Ange which will be a week before the season starts. I just hope we get a few more signings by then!
We do usually have one or two behind closed doors friendlies for what it's worth. I think four (public) pre-season friendlies is about the norm, so having three if the Roma one's cancelled isn't too concerning, would prefer it went ahead though obviously. That said, I'm not a massive fan of the team jetting off to different continents every pre-season anyway, I get it's to give fans across the globe a taste of Spurs in the flesh (and for £££ purposes) but the travelling must take it out of the players when time could be more smartly spent in England at the training ground working more on Ange's system and tactics.
We might end up playing an S-League Allstars team, after reports of Roma cancelling their Asian tour On the subject of preseason fixtures...
For those that don't read Spanish, that's a claim that we're going to play Barca. They hold the Joan Gamper Trophy every year, which is a glorified friendly. The date of August 9th would fit the rest of our games, even if it's just before the season starts.
CK - the Australian A League season runs almost concurrently with most of the european leagues so all clubs are in the same situation as us.
Fraser Forster won't be travelling for pre-season due to a back injury Let's see how many sites try and twist that nugget of information into making people click in the belief that Harry Kane won't be going...
Lilywhite Rose says the friendly against Cambridge today ended 1-1 with Scarlett our scorer. Lloris played the second half. 12 U21s were part of our squad. Club might release more info of it later, maybe even some highlights.
You’ve gotta somewhat actually admire at how out of touch the club are with its fans though. Promoting a paid access platform with a trailer for a documentary about a defender that just about 95% of the fanbase want sold? Fair play
Genuinely, Yves Bissouma. No idea if he’s ever captained anything before in his life but I just have a feeling about him this year.
