The 'Golden Generation' were probably the biggest bunch of prima donnas England ever had. They promised so much and delivered so little.
Too many egos and not enough grafting.
The new crop of players coming through the ranks are a breath of fresh air <ok>

basically Murry is a Rooney fan boy. He can't accept that Rooney is one of those players that is not fit to represent his country. Crouch in front of Rooney... yeah I'll go with that! Any English striker playing in the prem I would happily give a chance over the ticking human time bomb.

Seems you don't know me at all, then. Easier to call everyone who says anything positive about Rooney a "fanboy" rather than address their point, huh?

got to agree with this. Murray don't believe the hype - this same media hype that claims England have no chance without Rooney, blah blah. He is pants for England, I can't remember a good game he's had.

Bent will always score goals, he is not as talented as Rooney but he plays a different role, he will be on the end of balls that others won't .. he will be in the right place, like Lineker was, like Owen used to be. Bent had no service whatsoever.

As has been mentioned it looked like the team played for each other, they were just negative and not that talented. I disagree that the defenders were great - defenders and keepers always look better than they are when they are under the kosh, like relegation fodder teams. Rooney should not be a guaranteed starter, Defoe is more of a goal threat than Rooney, Crouch should get the nod if you are looking for a target man, his record is outstanding at international level.

If you claim Rooney should be a starter then you have it totally wrong, he just doesn't cut it at international level at all, he is awful.

I'm sorry, but you've got it wrong. I'm not a supporter of Rooney, I agree he's overrated ... I'm the first bloody one to say it most of the time. I'm pointing out that hating Rooney so much that you choose someone inferior like Bent (who, I'm sorry, is utterly useless at international level, and anyone saying otherwise here is I think only saying it because of hatred of Rooney).

You can excuse it away by it being Spain, but Welbeck looked more threatening than Bent did, and he was on the field for hardly any time and in a position where we had everyone but him behind the ball. Bent's got the footballing imagination of a goldfish; we'll never threaten CBs with Bent up front on his own.

As I said before (and you apparently didn't read) ... any of our strikers would've got on the end of that. A couple of them would probably have put it in the net too, instead of needing Lampard to close the deal.

Name a moment in open play where Bent looked to threaten the CBs.

Except that it was Bent who won the header which lead to the goal.

Rooney wouldn't of won that header as he would of been sent off for kicking a player or throwing a fit if he lost the ball.

You say people are just blindly hating Rooney but you aren't giving Bent credit for his role, saying anyone could of won that header is insulting. Positioning, strength and determination gets you inti the position to win that, something Bent thrives on.

Seriously, get Rooney's nuts out of your mouth because it's getting embarrassing now.

Now come on, this is getting a bit silly now. "We may as well have had ten players on the pitch with nobody up front for most of the game, but then Bent won a header, so you're obviously sucking Rooney's dick". That's just an embarrassing argument, mate.

The reason you're not justifying Bent's existence in that game last night and keep on pointing to a single header is that he did absolutely nothing the entire game otherwise. And it's not like there weren't opportunities, we were going forward and going on the break on a number of occasions, and Bent's contribution was to look confused and be completely out of position to benefit the team from the moves, and not ONCE try and threaten the CBs. We may as well have had Helen Mirran up front if we wanted to try and score from open play.

I said it before (and you're ignoring it in favour of childish insults, I suspect because you know it's correct), Welbeck looked more threatening than Bent, showed more positioning, determination and strength than Bent, and he was on the field for a short amount of time when we weren't even trying to produce any moves. If we're going down the childish route, maybe you should get your head out of Bent's arse for a moment.

Rooney has had his chance. Give one to players who can do as a better job without being sent off or banned. Rooney is arguably mentally unstable. Anyone who likes grannies (in a sexual way) must have a screw loose.

I have to say the England team is so much more likeable without Terry, Young and Rooney

Can't really put him in the same context of Rooney and Terry.

the way he conducts himself just screams arrogance above his ability, or maybe he's just one of those people who you just dislike for no real reason
