Anybody know if the lad came through it without an injury? Saw some of the first half of Scotland U21s v the Netherlands U21s, but never even noticed he was on the pitch. But he does tend to shy away in games.
No idea how Cairney got on, but apparently Brady "stole the show" for the Irish U21's in their 2-0 win over Liechtenstein, scored a penalty and escaped three challenges to set up the 2nd.
I'm a big fan if TC but yesterday tipified everything that his detractors dwell on.... He looked lethargic and a bit unfit. Appeared to be playing a "deep lying playmaker role" to quote FM. but disn't demand the ball or put himself ina position to receive it and hurt the opposition. May have been that the dutch were on top for long periods and bossed the midfiled but i'd hope that TC can learn from this and start to take games by the scruff of the neck.
Cairney isn't even mentioned on the BBC report of the match. All you can glean from it is that he was subbed on 71 mins
There are some similarities in the way Cairney plays to how Bullard does, in which they both start moves and can dictate tempo etc. But the major difference was that Jimmy would go and demand the ball (when he was up for it) and always wanted it back. Cairney is great with the ball but the ball has to find him rather than him finding the ball. The top players in that role like Scholes, Xabi Alonso, Wilshere etc are always demanding possession. Room for Cairney to learn.
good news. maybe barmby will be the match to light up brady once again. i expect stewart on the bench @ derby.
I agree there is room for improvement with Cairney, however we tend to compare him to premiership players! He isn't, he is a championship player
He was a lot better when we were in the Premiership as to how he is now. The Championship is a bit rougher, I don't think it really suits him.
If he was a prem player, I'm sure somebody would have snapped him up! He may be a late developer but he has been on the scene a few years now and hasn't improved at the rate I would have expected
100% agree and in fact I think it's been a steady decline since his debut v Wolves and those games against Man City and Chelsea. I'm not saying he's a Premiership player at all and I was hardly singing his praises but I think he's good enough on the ball to really be a top player in this division but it's rare that we see that nowadays. Hopefully NB can get it out of him.
Like most, if not all our players, Tom will surely respect Nicky, so hopefully will bring the best out in Tom
I watched part of the Scotland under 21s game, and felt that Tom didnt really get much of the ball to be honest.
