I agree with prehab and I wouldn’t be doing it… BUT I guess the club are balancing that risk with long term reward. They’ll know it’s a risk and think they’re mitigated against it. Big call. I back them even if I don’t agree

Yeah it's a big call. Guess we have to see how it plays out.

I agree, I would love Batth to be our rock at the back this coming season and letting him go in my opinion, is as big a risk as not signing a striker last January. But there are a couple of things that suggest letting him go may not be just a football decision.

    • Fishpaste could be spot on (I think he is). We have told Batth that we won’t extend his contract past 2024 and have allowed him to speak to other clubs to give him a bit of security at the end of his career.
    • Our succession planning could mean that we are pretty close to the FFP limits and we need to be mindful of dishing out contracts to players who are less likely to play and prevent us acquiring players who fit in with our long term plans.

I don’t know where we stand now with FFP because we started with a clean sheet on promotion and the latest accounts only cover our final season in League 1, but I do trust the club to project the financial plan and understand where we will stand in years 1, 2 & 3 to make sure we don’t fall foul of FFP.

I guess the argument is one-two years of championship football could leave Seelt and Triantis being ready for the premier league but two years of being back up to Batth and Ballard will see them not be

We are now where near FFP limits, not should we be after only 1 year in the championship and a strict wage structure

isn’t the FFP limits only related to growing your own wage amount vs revenue tho, rather than versus others in the league? Basically stops teams from growing too quickly. If we have a strict wage budget it will continue to be unless revenue grows (ie players sold)

Around 5mill was quoted for Matija Frigan when Rangers was linked in May

Why the **** does everything they do need to have the word toon in it? We get it, they sound like dopey cartoon whales when they shout / chant it.

Anyway I digress, seems a decent player.

I don't know where we are with FFP, but I do know the club won't be looking at this year as a stand alone, they will be looking at a projection of the next three years at a minimum.

The new FFP rules relate wages to turnover. Think it's 2025 when it's strictly limited to 70% of the clubs turnover.

We where miles away from that and losses last season, not reason to think this season is any different.

It's why the commercial side being a mess annoys me as every extra penny we make off the field goes towards the playing budget and off sets ffp costs

This is year 2 of the 3 year FFP cycle, so the club will have looked at this cycle, then no doubt have a rough idea where the next 3 year cycle sits imo

Disagree with this, I think it's respectful to let him know where we stand. Gives him the option. He's perfectly welcome to stay with us for the year and try to get signed up somewhere else next summer, but if he's worried about finding a contract in a year's time then we won't stand in his way if he wants to search for a 2-year deal now.

Basically, clubs can make a £13m loss per season and be assessed over 3 seasons. I did hear that it was going to change and be decided on turnover but I'm not sure how that would work but it must be better for us with our fanbase.

    I think that's what I said, but remember it's currently a rolling 3 year cycle <ok>

Its a massive call, possibly the biggest yet imo. The only positive is it seems we have the talent (unproven at this level tho) already at the club to replace him

You would think we could increase our turnover significantly with the exposure we had last season and with STID. I once read that Premiership clubs deliberately target the Far East, India and USA markets to increase there turnover.

Don’t think we sell many shirts abroad. Club signing a deal with a local company kinda scuppered that even if there were demand
