If our wonderful owner announced in the summer that his non-tacky company Sports Direct would be our new shirt sponsorship, would anybody actually buy it?

Now if this pans out as I expect it to, I believe this shows that he would never, at least permanently, put Sports Direct as our shirt sponsor.

I've never been put off by shirt sponsors in the past and don't think I'd start now.

I buy the shirt because it's the colours and strip of the team I support. I haven't bought this years though as it seems to have been through the quality assurance control provided by a blind leper colony in Goa.

I think this is already showing that although some people still would, and I respect there views, most people wouldn't buy it.

I have bought every shirt for at least the past five seasons (except for the yellow and orange ones, I am ginger for heavens sake...i'd look a right pillock) but if it was to have Sports Direct on it I wouldn't go near it. I will quite happily step inside the 'Sports Direct Arena' and support the lads, but I will not walk around advertising his company. I will wear the old shirts and retro shirts, but I would not wear ones with Sports Direct on them.

The reason for this article is to share with you all my view that MA will not give us that sponsor. Yes, he is a dickhead but he is not stupid enough to do this because there will be a large decrease in revenue. I don't know how much net profit he makes all together just from the shirt sales, but I reckon it would be quite a lot and a lot of people who would normally buy the replica kit, will not buy it with Sports Direct on the front.

Nope. I've ignored most of the 'boycoutts', mainly because I a) still want to go to the match, b) buy my footie boots in Sports Direct (they're cheap!) and c) don't dislike Ashley as much as most, but not buying a shirt isn't difficult and would send a massive message that we're sick of being the only Premiership club repellant to all sponsors other than the owners shop. It's embarassing frankly.

I've no doubt if it happens though Sky won't struggle to find divs chanting sack the board whilst wearing SD sponsored kits.

I agree, I don't think he'd use it as a permanent sponsor, but I can see him sticking it on there for the rest of the season.

Completely agree with you. I can see it as a temporary thing, but you don't become a billionaire from nothing without being financially intelligent. He will see that it is beneficial to get a new kit sponsor from next season onwards.

    Ta :D

I said that you should be sponsored by Jaguar. With Jaguar and Puma on your shirts you could be called the Black Cats. Then I realised most jaguars aren't black, I was thinking of panthers :(

Yeah, I'll still buy it. Out of habit and tradition more than anything...Also, I'll be buying a miniature one for my soon to be born niece/nephew (they'll turn one at the end of 2012/13 season's january transfer window - this means it'll still be next season's potential SD kit)

Also, I love this season's kit. Might not be traditional, but looks really smart and is a great cut/fit!

Adidas 08/09 relegation kit was rotten, I hate looking at it now!

Slazenger has a panther though, and no prizes for guessing who their parent company is...
