I don't think Barmby's status at the club will be severely damaged, whatever happens in the next few weeks, other than with the odd sub-human caller on Blunderside. We all know he has no experience, we all know he loves the club and has the respect of the players, if it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't. It's obviously a punt, but it's only a temporary arrangement for now and as he knows the players and the players rate him, I think there's more chance of it working than failing.
I doubt that we talking about any more than 3 games, it really is just a paper exercise. An interim solution, whilst we go through the list and settle on permanent manager.
agreed. thats the point that matters most. the players rate and respect NB and will play for him. thats all that counts. this could well be an act of Genius. time to unite and get behind the lads. NB will continue with attaching football, of that i have no doubts. the defence is sorted - NB just needs to get the goals flowing now.
Forget all this 6 weeks rubbish for now. We have a game to prepare for on Saturday. To prepare for a game on Saturday we need somebody to be thinking about what tactics we're going to adopt and what team we're going to put out. We want to bring someone in as manager but it probably won't be with enough time to prepare the side for Saturday. So who on the existing coaching staff do you want in charge for training this week with a view to putting a team out on Saturday?
Most good managers get a good team around them, and if NB is to get the job then he needs to get an experienced nunber 2, as well as a good defence coach as well as an attacking coach (is this a niche for Deano?).
As far as i'm aware, Deano's not the best coach. It'd be nice from a sentimental perspective, especially if it were Joyce, Barmby & Deano. But unlike the other 2 there's not really any reason to believe he'd do a better job than other realistic options.
I dont think anyone has ever argued about NB being caretaker manager for saturday, I would be interested to see where that has been mentioned. The point being made by everyone on this post is what do we do after saturday.
Barmby is not stupid. He will know himself that its too early for him to be considered for the job full time. When he's ready he'll make a decent manager, but I don't think we'll see him taking the job now.
I wouldn't personally have him as permanant manager, but for caretaker manager it is a very good appointment. Surley if we do bring a new permanant manager, Nick will now have a better chance of staying on as a backroom coach or maybe even Assistant Manager. I would fancie Karl Robinson myself!
I think Nick's future as a coach/manager at the club would be very much undermined by the arrival of Karl Robinson. He is younger than Nick and already has a well-developed relationship with John Gorman. I think this is a suck it and see situation for Nick, but it's going to be very hard for him because in the initial phase he is going to have very little support, until a decision is made about his permanent future.
I think Nick has been put in charge to test his credentials as a potential manager. If the team perform under him I honestly believe he will be offered the job permanently
I actually don't think we'll become **** with him... first off it's not like we were doing bad before so a change of manager shouldn't affect too much, as long as he doesn't overhaul the entire starting XI . Also I think that, should you ask our players what they think of him, i'm sure the majority would express their admiration for him. I'd be worried if he was a hothead or a joker like deano... but i think nicky is a sensible, likeable guy with an excellent knowledge of football. If i played football, i'd want to play for someone like that.
Can't think of anyone better as Caretaker Manager and hope he does well enough to get the job permanently. If it happens it will tip the scales in favour of me going to the Southampton game. Nick will give 100% to Hull City in whatever role they give him, I'll give him 100% of my belief.
Do you think Brian Horton might come in short notice to give NB a hand? No idea what he's been up to since Brownie was given the boot.
Nicky Barmby must have dozens of connections in football who could do a job at City as a right hand man/ father figure, ie Terry Venables ???????? ( Only joking but.........
agreed. how about Wayne Brown as defensive coach and Deano as attacking coach.? its not sentiment both know what they are doing and have a proven track record at this level. i think Nicks No.2 may well shock a few when announced, but in a good way. NB is no fool and knows he needs an experienced No.2 to help him. time will tell.
