Pure class from Grands Crus, he was just to classy for these today. A few jumping errors, which is expected on debut, but I'm sure he will make a great chaser. Cue Card made the same sort of mistakesas he did on debut, and today didn't get away with it, though he would never have beaten Grands Crus:biggrin:
 
Very impressive start over fences. Slight mistakes noted, but nothing overly alarming for his first run over fences, especially considering if he can jump round Cheltenham he'll jump round anywhere.

Cue Card was set for a distant second the way Grands Crus bounded up the hill.
 
I liked Champion Court the first time I saw him over hurdles and I think he was one of my 10 to follow on the old 606. Big imposing horse who looked destined to be a chaser one day. Nice to hear he's progressing.
 
I agree Shergy. I was leaning towards Cue Card initially but once I noted the two Pipe winners common sense prevailed and I lumped on Grands Crus... Afterall this was the horse who made a wee bit of a race with Big Bucks whereas Cue Card wasn't top even of the novice tree last year...then there was the 5lbs pull. It all looks so obvious now, this was a real lump on job (accidents permitting!) <laugh> Did you have a nice wadge on Shergy?!
 
I was on at 2/1 early doors, then when I seen the 2 Pipe winners, I helped myself to some more at 6/4.

It does look like a very generous price now, on official ratings Grands Crus was 21 pounds superior to Cue Card over hurdles, so it should have been a no brainer :biggrin:
 
Good to hear Shergy you're still taking some of the bookies! Can't believe to hear he hit 5-2 at one time this morning...

Aye I got on at 7-4 then watched him jump the first 3 or 4 well then done an in running bet on him at 11-8. Wanted to see how he'd take the first few and he looked pretty accomplished! My first ever in running bet at that!
 
Not a bad strategy for novice chases Beef. Glad to hear you had a result aswell. Are you watching this football? Im hopeful that we can beat Estonia over 2 legs:biggrin:
 
I thought there was only one mistake of note by Grands Crus and he looks to be a good jumper. Without that error he would not have come off the bridle in a decent race. Trip was too short as well so he is undoubtedly very exciting.
 
I see that BoyleSports have trumpeted the fact that they have now opened a market on the 2013 CGC. But the actual reality is that they are only quoting one horse! Grands Cru at 16/1. Deffo not for me but any takers amongst the membership?!?

Yep Oddy, it&#8217;s of Montbazon. Thought I had better show my support after Sunday&#8217;s reversal. Really can&#8217;t wait for him to go over hurdles where I believe he will be a star.

I&#8217;m sure the old one of Tataniano will be back in the not too distant future though!
 
Sorry to momentarily talk about Montbazon on the Grands Crus thread but this has just popped up about him on &#8216;Sporting Life&#8217;. Alan King has said &#8216;Though Montbazon could finish only third in the Listed bumper, I was in no way disappointed. He does everything so easily at home and is a class horse, as we saw last season, and, though he has been cruising up to Pride In Battle on the bridle in the mornings, once that one blew up earlier I knew that my suspicions that Montbazon would need the race would prove correct. In the circumstances, he has run a smashing race, and he will now go novice hurdling. He has done plenty of schooling and he has got bags of toe, so we will stick to two miles for the time being.&#8217;

One to very, and I do mean very, much look forward to.
 
I think Mr King may be in for a difficult season once again. I see he is sending Kumbeshwar chasing, looks a good decision as he has looked well shy of his novice form so far over hurdles.

Your old fave Binocular looks set for the Fighting Fifth:

No doubt Mr Henderson will be slightly less bullish
 
For a £100k race the &#8216;Fighting Fifth&#8217; even at the first entry stage looks comparatively weak as only 11 have been put in against Binocular. I&#8217;m sure it will cut up even further and only a handful or so will turn up. Such a shame as the course have done much to promote this heat in the last few years. However, at least they&#8217;ve attracted Binocular so it&#8217;s not all doom and gloom for them. Mr Henderson has stated that Binocular will be campaigned much more &#8216;agressively&#8217; this term and that he&#8217;s both really well and forward so would imagine that he would share Frank Berry&#8217;s optimism.

Would agree that Alan King is not in for the easiest of campaigns. Has certainly lost a lot of ground on Mr Nicholls and Mr Henderson these past couple of years.
