The day before the budget, the Bank of England torpedoed the pension funds with a catastrophic gilt sale, which led the markets to react and then forced the Bank of England to bail out the pension funds. Sooner or later (probably much later) the great unwashed will wake up and realise that the Bank of England (Mark Carney and Andrew Bailey at the helm) has been the cause of their problems for the last 15 years but now it is payback time for all the free money that they had.
