I'm really struggling even to feign interest in the transfers in and out. Last season's team was **** but the players I would like to stay are the ones who will most likely leave. Dieng being one of them, Field and Chair the others. It looks like we are weakening for next season.

Have a quick flick through all of the championship transfers from last season:

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cha...saison_id=2022&s_w=&leihe=1&intern=0&intern=1

The vast majority are now free transfers or loans. Most with fees paid are in the hundreds of thousands. Only big money moves e.g. £5m+ seem to be in and out of the clubs just relegated, essentially trading PL standard players. The market just doesn't exist for championship standard players to be going for more than what we're getting for Dieng.

I'm no expert but based on Seny's 21/22 form, I'd be hoping for nearer £10 million. Based on his 22/23 form, I'd struggle to justify more than £2 million. The really frustrating thing will be if he returns to top form, with us having let him go for the lower figure. Of course, there is every chance of that happening....

If Seny does move on, as sounds likely, I'd much rather replace him with an up-and-coming keeper (who better fits our business model) rather than the ageing Begovic (36). I know we have to be pragmatic but if we are going for a more mature keeper, I wonder whether Smithies (33) would be interested in re-joining us.

1 year left on contract...then he goes for free.
    Distinctly average season last year.

Goalies are cheap as chips. 2 million is not far off really

All roles impact a team of course, but a keeper is a vital role for me. Provides confidence behind the defence. Pulls off key saves that can build points as much as any pair of strikers could. Weak keeper = weak foundations. If we are going to lose Seny we need a good replacement; I’d prefer a young/strong prospect but if not then we will have to take an older pro on a contract we can afford. Anyone of less ability than Seny will cost us precious points through a season though.

2 million is a little bit underwhelming. His value was surely higher at the end of the 21/22 season. But then again he's only worth what someone is willing to pay and it doesn't sound like there's a queue forming at our door for him.

How often did you see him play last season? ‘Bang average’ would be a fair description in my eyes, frequently not that.

    When prices were higher
    And to moneybags Newcastle.

2 million is better than we could expect for a not outstanding keeper

Seny wasn't a 2m player last season that's for sure. Seen some talk about him having a big ego on Twitter, sure Clive suggested something similar in his season round-up too. Not sure I've really noticed him being a Billy Big Balls tbh.

Got to about 14 away games last season, and paid for midweek games and obvs watched SKY games.and yes was average, however so was Rob Dickie, but previous season both were quality and could have got a shed load of money for them both last year. Does this mean we are also starting up "Are you a true supporter " thread again?!

Not at all re ‘true supporter’ I just thought that he was hugely disappointing last season and he only really had half a season before that, after AFCON he was injured and we ran through goalie after goalie. I think teams with decent scouts would spot the true quality of players like Dieng and Dickie which is why we didn’t get any offers for them when they were briefly playing well.

There's a bigger picture here too - the club, and the fans, need to get into the habit of selling players for as much as we can get for them, and bringing in cheaper replacements. The more we do it the more, and the healthier the bank balance becomes, the more negotiating leverage we'll have with other clubs. And that's not unambitious - it's what smaller clubs who become far more successful than us do.

We will never know if the figures that were being offered for Dickie from WH were true, but surely we would have expected a shed load more than the 2.5m we have got for them both. I was jesting in regards to games watched as I know you were not in involved with the previous **** SB

If that's the case then we should've sold Dieng and Willock before last season started. We'd have got alot more for them then than now. Also, somewhere down the line you have to stop and say right, this side is good enough to get promoted or at least make the play offs. It's what Brentford did to perfection !
