He got a good few assists to be fair. Think it was the wrong end of his career for him to try the PL for the first time though. Didn’t help that the whole team was dysfunctional and the dynamic between Son and him never got going for a few reasons. Overall, best he moves on. But not the worst of free transfers even if he’s on a wedge.

I don't have a great handle on Postecoglou's system, but wouldn't Perisic suit it?
He was totally unsuited to playing wingback in Conte's, of course.
Very different proposition though, isn't it?

In possession I think he’d make a good fist of it. But out of possession I’d have serious concerns, particularly when it comes to pressing/fitness, and recovery pace.

On a side note (but kind of related) I watched some footage of Destiny the other day, first time I’ve really seen him. What was interesting about the highlights reels was that a lot of the action was him starting in quite an infield position despite nominally being a LWB. He looks very technical and physical, as well as being very fast. Genuinely excited to get a look at him under Ange, think he could be in for a real breakout season.

What gets me is that, when he arrived, it was reported that Sessegnon was sticking to him like glue to get pointers

If only Emerson stuck to him like glue looking for a few pointers to work on his crossing, then we'd have had a secret weapon

Listened to an interesting episode of Last word on Spurs yesterday. Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports was the guest. He was asked among many questions how far advanced were negotiations for Van Der Ven and Tapsoba, he replied that nothing has been agreed to for either player and also that Tosin of Fulham was definitely on the radar. All the discussions were basically dependent on when and if other defenders could be moved on , probably after the
    Australian and Asian tour.

    Mason Solomon

Been reading that his parent club, Shakhtar Donetsk, aren’t happy that FIFA has allowed their Ukrainian players to rip up their contracts and leave for free thanks to the gormless Russians.

Apparently they appealing to Levy’s good faith and will be asking for some form of payment for the player, which legally Levy won’t need to do but this will be a question of morals.

I’m not even sure if Spurs are even allowed to pay the club any fees at present despite the contracts being voided by FIFA due to the sanctions in place.

    The received wisdom

    ...pause for laughter...

...is that we're looking to get a CB in place before the preseason tour, which would favour van de Ven as Wolfsburg would be willing to sell and invest, while Tapsoba is more of an issue as Leverkusen could well be down two CBs for a period as Piero Hincapie was injured on international duty last month and may miss a chunk of preseason leaving them with just Jonathan Tah as a starting CB - which would be an issue, given Leverkusen play 3ATB

With no UEFA participation this season,
there simply will not be enough games
where his experience counts or likelihood
of being in the starting XI will be high.

Weirdly he was perfectly suited to playing LWB in Conte's system at Inter - which indicates that Conte either overrated our midfield's ability to control games, or forgot that midfields existed (which, to be fair, is what we were also doing regularly)

In Ange's system, though, he'd more likely be deployed as a LW as he was when at Bayern a few seasons back - and while there are advantages of having somebody with crossing ability on the bench (and potentially having him working with Gil and/or Emerson to work on their crossing in training) his wages make that notion look more than a little batty

Ideal world we get Tapsoba and van de Ven. Looking at around £80m for the pair which should be pretty easily doable, especially after some outgoings, plus seeing that lot up the road soon to be spending over £200m once Rice and Timber complete their moves and join Havertz, it makes you realise we need to be looking to compete with that or face being left behind unless we sign some unknown gems that become immediate hits, which based on the last 6 or so years of our spending, is unlikely.

Tapsoba especially should be signed for me, already a top CB in Germany with over 100+ Bundesliga games but at 24 can still improve, think he'd be perfect for the Prem and Ange's system whilst complimenting Romero nicely. Van de Ven's talented and versatile enough to play LB but nowhere near the finished product yet and you can see in his compilation videos on YouTube he's not always positioned well enough which is why he relies on his pace to get back and make tackles, not sure it'd be as forgiving in the Prem (see Sanchez) in his first season or two but he's someone who has a high ceiling to improve into a top CB. Tosin is simply a squad signing for me, improves on Dier and Sanchez but doesn't make the necessary impact on our XI.

    So:
Tapsoba and van de Ven the best option.
Tapsoba and Tosin a sound option.
Van de Ven and Tosin a less desired option.

Dan KP, like other journos, reckons Ndombele may have another chance at Spurs.

Mentions about the expected outgoings, led notably by Hugo, Perisic and Hojbjerg as the biggest players but that Ndombele will have a fresh chance under Ange.

The only way I see a future for him here is getting the chance to start the season whilst Bentancur’s still recovering and then he’ll be assessed from then until January. Personally I’d bin him yesterday if I had the chance but he’s someone who has the ability to keep making people think he’ll turn it around. Four years down the line though, it feels more like a pipe dream. Long term I only see him (potentially) being useful in a similar capacity to how Spaletti used him at Napoli and that’s as a 10-15 sub against tired legs.

Ally Gold says Bissouma’s caught the eye of Ange, whilst Mason and Wells are already big fans of the guy.

I know it’s ridiculously cliched but I think he’ll be like a new signing this season and he’ll be a lot more like the Brighton midfielder that was comfortably one of the best in the league. Massively stifled by last season’s tactics.

A Bissouma-Bentancur-Maddison midfield in general though is something I’m really excited about.

Looks like your buy one get one free offer has failed and Newcastle have beaten Tottenham to sign Barnes.

Is there anyone who wasn't stifled by Conte's tactics last season?

I'm half tempted to include coaches
