It's definitely a transitional season with changes throughout the club, i'll settle for some entertaining football and few more goals and wins and see where it takes us. I think that we should make at least the play-off but won't worry too much if we don't this time.
I only listed strikers. We have a number of other players that could be played there including Sulemana, however his goal scoring record doesn't suggest that he's a natural goalscorer despite what happened in the Liverpool game!
Perhaps they're hoping that the obviously outdated rule of only allowing one goalkeeper at a time will be changed before the season starts. Or are they simply trying to stockpile all the available keepers, to stop other clubs from getting their hands on one?
Again, perhaps this new keeper is a level above the other ones? Doubt we are just signing him for the sake of it. Probably see at least 1 of the previous ones released/moved on
He was that much of a top prospect, we didn't even offer him a pro deal. Just an extended scholarship, which he rejected to go to Chelaea on a pro deal. Maybe their judgement is better.
I have no doubt we aren't signing him for the sake of it, just seems odd to give new contracts to Adli & Jeffries (and Wright, who went out on loan) only to sign a new keeper a few weeks later to block their pathway.
This is exactly how I feel. If I am honest, Saints will lose a lot of the current squad before the start of the season and we will start the campaign with a line up that is not only unrecognisable but also untested. My expectations would be to finish mid-table. I would expect us to be outside the play-offs although I think that a relegation battle might not be unexpected. The games for the few few months look quite difficult. If we make a promotion bid, I feel it is going to take 2 or 3 seasons as the improvements that are needed are root and branch. I am not convinced that the management structure is entirely completed as well. Another poor period of recruitment would put the end to Rasmusen, in my opinion. As Spiderman nicely puts it, seeing some entertaining football would be nice.
Not hard, is it? Maybe we are signing so many keepers because we are so bad at scouting them. Surely if we sign all the keepers in Europe, one will be good
‘Southampton are desperate to sign Flynn Downes, who has made little impact since joining West Ham last summer.’ - Jacob Steinberg, West Ham correspondent for The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...am-coach-paul-nevin-strasbourg-patrick-vieira
Well signing Bazunu who is only like 20/21 showed we don’t have much faith in the current crop. No idea about McNamara but this is pro football we are talking about, it’s ruthless. We aren’t just going to be sticking with players because they’ve been here a long time and hoping they make the grade if they aren’t showing enough. We clearly are giving opportunities to young players based on our signings over the last couple of years and the playing time given to young players. The ones who were here already would surely have been included in the first team last year if we thought they were ready.
Flynn Downes would be a incredible signing. Top replacement for Lavia. He is so calm and composed, Really really excellent in tight spaces at receiving the ball, Quite Lavia esque.
