Relatively unknown prospect? He played 40 times for Cardiff in the Championship, plays for Celtic, has five international caps and has played in the Europa League.
Nice respectful comment from a supporter of celtic, a team ranked 16 places lower than Fulham. And whilst we will be in the round of 32 as a minimum, celtic are looking forward to 2 further defeats before their ignominious exit. In general I respect both Glasgow clubs, but disillusioned 'fans' like this guy need a reality check - 1967 is now 44 years ago and Jock Stein has been dead for26 years. YOU'RE LIVING IN THE DISTANT PAST
Celtic and Rangers have both reached European finals in the past 10 years and have both been in the last 16 of the Champions League and you're coming on here acting all Billy BigBalls because you reckon your team of overrated and overpaid charlatans might go further than the last 32 of the Europa League. Whoopy ****ing do. You're in a group with teams from Denmark, Holland and Poland whose weekly player's wages are probably about a tenth of what your players earn while we're in a group with Rennes, Seville and Udinese and still have a chance of qualification. And what we've achieved we've done so on merit not on the grubby earnings of Rupert Murdoch and SKY television
If you know your history ... remind me what have Fulham ever done? Fulham ever seen the Champions League? Diddy EPL teams thinkin because they get a bit of cash for finishing mid table they are a big club
Remind me how Fulham qualified this season ??? Was it fourth place in the fair play league in England and the teams above you were already qualified
15 Years ago you were rock bottom, so don't give it the biggun. You are a nice little club playing with silly money.
Listen to 'high fliers' in the Scottish PL! You'd struggle in the Championship. We may be a small club but we defied the odds to the Europa League final 2 years ago. Even beat Juventus 4-1.
Remind us how you're still in the Europa? Wasn't the team who beat you disqualified? Hats off to you, well done.
Look, the point I was making is that minnows with a few pounds can talk flippantly about taking a £2-3m punt on a guy playing for one of the biggest clubs on the planet. That shows where we are. A nice little club can talk in such tones where we can't.
With our present squad we may struggle, however you miss the point here. IF and its a big IF, we were in the Championship or EPL we wouldnt have our present squad. Even without Skys money the interest in Celtic (and Rangers) being there alone would probably increase our sponsorship and media deals 10 times over. We fill ****ty grounds like yours with our away support for friendlies - let alone competative games. Throw skys money into the mix and Celtic and Rangers potential is massive. More money coming in means more money for transfer fees and wages - so we'd probably replace our whole squads. within a year or two you'd very much be staring up at us. We'd have the potential to break into the champions league places in time. Fulham will have to continually be content with mid table being a success forever - and youve got a billionaire owner for **** sake
matthews is a good prospect, but he hasnt achieved anything yet. he's not worth anywhere near £5m, he's only just moved to celtic in the summer so he wont be moving to make the club a quick buck, is he ready for the step up to BPL football, in my opinion no. a couple of years of first team football at celtic and maybe. there was rumours of arsenal / man u interest when he was at cardiff but nothing ever materialised, and he was available on a free transfer this summer, so you do the math..
Celtic got him for free - but only as we are in Scotland. An english club (as Cardiff play in the English league) woudl have had to pay development compensation. So Celtic could afford to offer him a better wage than perhaps an english club (or maybe a signing on fee in lieu of the development fee. Same went for Ledley. So while you have a point that despite others could have spoken with him - celtic could get him free - others couldnt Celtic also took a risk that he will fulfill promise and we can make a few bob
the compensation wouldnt have been enough to put a premiership club off though, i do accept that celtic came in at the earliest opportunity to talk to him in february i believe, who's to say if he'd stuck to his guns and seen his contract out that other clubs wouldnt have come in? i suppose the fact that celtic didnt mess about must have appealed to him, as well as the relative success of ledley up there (i'm a cardiff fan btw). the fact that our previous manager (dave jones) publicly criticised him and then left him out of the squad for about 6 months must have contributed to him wanting to get out of the club asap so i dont blame him for going one bit, though his decision to go to the SPL must be questioned unless he gets first team football, is he?
REBELBHOY If this team of yours is so good, how come you cannot beat anyone when playing in Europe. If you played in the English league, you would be a middle of the road championship side. Big gates no tallent.
We just beat Rennes 3-1 ya ****ing diddy. And it's talent, not tallent. You're English, at least learn your own ****ing language. ****.
