Yes, this another in a long line of formation threads, but I thought I'd put a bit of a twist on it, if anything to show how good our current position is.

So, choose a strongest 11 from the relatively Dark Ages in our recent history, of 2004-2009, starting from the sacking of Sir Bobby and culminating in relegation.

    Given
    Beye-Taylor-Bassong-Enrique
    Milner-Emre-Parker-N'Zogbia
    Shearer-Martins

Actually that is a pretty good team..

Colo was a bit of a shambles that season and Jonas was decent but nothing particularly special back then, at least from what I remember...

Would have Bellamy up top or on the wing. Didn't he leave in 2005?

Yeah basically the whole team was **** back in that horrible 08-09 relegation season. Also Jonas was mainly playing at RM if I remember correctly.. he had a outstanding performance in his debut against Man United were Martins scored(1-1 draw). Colo was absolute cack back then.. really was.. although he did have a couple of decent games but he was nowhere near the level he is now. Martins/Viduka/Owen/Butt/Guthrie/Barton/Duff/Jonas/N'Zogbia/Bassong.. quality team but we lacked team spirit and simply we weren't good enough.

Just what i was thinking! Call them "Dark Ages", How about 1978-1981 for not only a Dark Age but a fooking Pitch Black Age! A strike force of Shinton and Rafferty! Dark Ages? You young uns don't know what dark ages are! I remember when 200 of us lived int shoe box int middle of troad!

Souness always gets the blame for everything but he had the right ideas, he was just at the wrong club at the wrong time. Following a legend and trying to instil some discipline into a squad of big time charlies was always going to be difficult.

They were dark for the OP and that's what matters. What are the legitimate dark ages?

Where do we stop? Do we stop when a 90 year old joins and tells us that we were **** in the 1920s or when an alien lands and tell us about the really dark days in -50million BC when Newcastle was just a labyrinth of ash and air, but still managed to sell out week-in-week-out.

Or maybe it's just subjective yo'.
