Exactly this. It's not about being against playing out from the back, retaining possession, recycling, etc. That's fine. But not when there's so obviously pressure of expectation on the players to play those absolute suicide balls out short centrally when the opposition are pressing. It makes no sense whatsoever, and I don't buy it that that is is not what Rosenior wants to see, nor that it's somehow the players poor decision making. It's blatantly obvious that too much expectation is being put on them to play those sort of passes. If Rosenior didn't want it like that then surely he'd have got his message across by now after so many months in charge with the same players; he clearly hasn't, tonight was back to as bad as it's been with 6 heart in the mouth moments from it in the first 30 or so minutes, after which we were finally punished. Even then Ingram had 2 or 3 similar moments in the second half. Rosenior has to change his message and the expectation, or maybe he is taking Acun's 4-3 comment literally?
I don't understand your point. It wasn't like we were swinging the crosses into him as people have said he needs and we didn't really create a chance for him either. Today he was entering more challenges than he did last season and winning them. He was keeping the ball instead of giving it away, it's nothing to do with who's around him, it was all down to Oscar and he was bringing them into play. He's miles fitter than we've ever seen him, so he's clearly been working like **** in the summer and he looked miles sharper. Whether he's had a rocket up the arse or he's pissed off that we were open to selling him, that's one hell of a way to start and it's not like we were playing Winterton either.
It was just a young keeper who made a few mistakes playing out from the back when he shouldn't have done. Even when Doch got caught on it, he shouldn't have been given the ball in that position. You're asking for trouble especially as Greg isn't the most technically gifted although Greg should've played it straight back to Timmy. It just emphasised the need for a keeper but I think they know that as we've been linked to loads of them.
One thing that pisses me off about how we play out from the back is that the keeper often passes centrally to Seri or another midfielder. If you play out from the back, you need to do it on an angle where the player receiving the ball can open up his body so that he’s not facing his own keeper. These hospital passes from keeper to Seri are an accident waiting to happen always because Seri receives the ball with his back to the opposition. Sometimes he can turn and beat the opposition pressing him but if he doesn’t for whatever reason, he’ll lose the ball right outside our penalty box.
They obviously offer, or have the potential to offer the club, or owner more than you or I. Do you not think previous chairmen have never taken folk on hospitality trips before? If he invites people onto his boat, plane, hotel or whatever isn't that his own perogative?
Those exact passes are specifically the ones that break lines though. If after receiving it he can get a square pass off to a defender facing forwards, that player will usually be free of pressure because the nearest attacker has gone in to close down Seri, and we've beaten the press and then ultimately Slater or someone is freed up to drive forward. People should bear in mind that the entire point of the strategy is to draw people close to create space behind them, so saying that you support it but only when they're not pressing us (not saying you've said that Kalman, but others have) is totally missing the point of the strategy. It is a high risk, high reward strategy, yes. But it's the way the game is going and that's because the progressive managers know that it's an effective way to play. The other thing to remember is that getting it clear isn't a 100% safe strategy either. It gives the ball back and allows the opposition to dictate the play, which is eventually going to lead to more shots against and goals against. The belief of the top managers is that the trade-off of the odd hairy moment when someone makes a mistake near their own goal is worth it for the overall control of the ball that it gives you, and the denial of opportunities for the opposition to build attacks. Note that we conceded incredibly few goals since Rosenior took over last season, far less than when we played a different way previously. It's not a coincidence, and it wasn't purely down to a single personnel change either.
That 'injury that needs to be managed' has been affecting him longer than we as fans realised? That would be an explanation. Let's see how he follows it up but he and Slater were outstanding in this one.
I'd say a friendly, which you'd want as many eyes on as possible, is not worth the small amount of revenue you'd bring in by putting it behind a paywall. Our Turkish friendly last year was streamed free on Youtube. You want as many people as possible watching for increased exposure.
Unfortunately for you, this is a major part of the tactics, the idea is to tempt the opposition press in and Seri, Doc or whoever be confident enough to play it off then play beyond the first press and break out that way.
It wasn't behind a pay wall. It could be and was streamed directly from tv8 and other iptvs. If you wanted commentary in English then you had the option to support the club via subscription - which is a test for the new service, but you could have wached it for free easily enough.
It was free to watch on several Youtube channels earlier. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
There's a difference between confidence and over confidence. Think Liam mentioned Seri being 'so comfortable having the potential to backfire' after a league game last season. You can't successfully play out from tge back if you don't use the space it affords you. If they press high you've got to pass through it not behind it
How long before they aren't confident enough to come looking for the ball? Tonight's match highlighted our weakness in playing out from the back(IMO we're short on skilful midfielders)and yes,Docherty was at fault,he'll be the first to put his hands up but the keeper gave him a poor ball and if you dwell against opposition of a decent standard you're asking for trouble... I feel a bit sorry for Docherty,he's not overly gifted when it comes to turning a player but he was immediately scapegoated as not up to scratch by several posters.Seri has a habit of losing plenty of ball but generally escapes any criticism...
I just watched highlights but as a Galatasaray supporter beside Hull, I follow both team closely, I can see that Galatasaray played with two and half starters from regular season (Mertens and Torreira, and may be Kazimcan) in first half and with mix of U19 team in second half. I wouldn't put so much attention to the score to be honest, it was just a showmatch, like everything Acun is involved in Turkey. That first half though, was quite a bit warning for Hull City for the upcoming season. I know level is different and Galatasaray is probably way better than Fenerbahce of last season, but still, 3-0 and a lot opportunities on goal against 2nd team of Galatasaray is not a good sign, especially considering Kazim and Mertens were usually labeled as weakest links of team, on the other hand Torreira was definetely player of the year in Turkey.
People are just happy to see us win, no one is particularly delving deeper into the performance as that was most players first 45 in 2 months, some players even longer. The weaknesses of the first half came from the weaker links in the side who won’t be starting games for us anyway.
Yeah the cynic in me thinks that we were allowed to score in the second half for the 'show' of it, but if it was just a very weak team then that makes sense too.
I don't think we were expected to win though, even in that scenario. I think we've tried to put 2 releatively even strength sides out based on 1st and 2nd half selection. I think they've started strong then chucked the kids in increasingly through the second half, but ultimately those talking about our lack of depth need to take a lesson from this as opposed to Liam. Out of the 2 effective squads that played for either side we came out top over 95 minutes. And it's a friendly. Getting minutes in legs, link ups and shape going after 2 months off is what it's about. You can win all your friendlies and get relegated. You can lose them all and get promoted. City have done both over the years.
