Good Morning. It's Wednesday 5th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Farke had to be convinced to take ER hot-seat Speaking candidly after his Elland Road inauguration, Daniel Farke stated that he had to be convinced that the club shared his vision for achieving success, before accepting the Managers role. Whilst the magnitude of the opportunity was never up for debate, the 46yo wanted to make sure that the owners, board and coaches were fully behind him, and shared the same ideas, in order to move forward. It brings an end to weeks of speculation, as Farke prepares to take his first training session with his new squad on Wednesday. Currently, the squad are being put through their paces by experts at the £45m sporting hi-tech facility at Leeds Beckett University in Headingley. Players are comprehensively being tested over two days, including cardiac screens, weigh-ins, blood checks, body composition measurements, eye exams, assessments of gait, jump performance and muscle strength. “To take over this task at such a big, emotional club with so many expectations, it is key people are on the same page: owners, board, sporting department,” “It is important to get a feeling for each other and that we agree on our visions of what has to be done to bring success." “They had to convince me to take this role. No one had to convince me about the potential and size of the club. But what was important for me was that I was convinced by the people here." “They had to have the same ideas and vision as me. Soon as I got this feeling, I thought this was an interesting project. I am grateful and humble all the key people shared more of the same views.” please log in to view this image Everything won't be perfect - Farke Daniel Farke has stated that quick decisions need to be made, but even then, 'everything won't be perfect' when Leeds kick off their Championship season against Cardiff City in 32 days. The 46yo also spoke of creating a solid foundation, and installing unity back in the players, but admitted that valuable time had been lost due to the takeover. Even so, he is confident, he'll have a 'good' team by the time the Summer transfer window slams shut on September 1st. “Our situation is more complicated than other clubs as we have to start later because of the takeover. Everything won’t be perfect in four weeks, but we need to create a solid foundation,” “We need to make some good and quick decisions, there are several to make for the group of players. “The transfer window will end on the final day so it will be a busy two months, but I’m confident we’ll have a good team at the end." “We have to work quickly to get to the heads and the hearts of the players and to build unity. That is what we will be working on.” please log in to view this image Leeds did not have the foresight to prepare for relegation Despite his good reputation, and proven track record of promotion from the Championship, former Leeds Captain Gordon Strachan fears Daniel Farke has his work cut out if he is going to win promotion with Leeds Utd next season. The fiery Scot labelled Norwich City (a team he won promotion with, in 19/20 and 21/22) as being a stable club with a wage structure, no huge players or egos, and questioned how Farke would fare with some of the Leeds players! Strachan also lambasted the Leeds hierarchy for not having the foresight to plan for relegation, even though they only stayed up by the skin of their teeth the previous season. “He did well at Norwich, he got them up. They played some nice football in the Championship and he has a good reputation. I’m pleased the club are looking at a manager with a proven track record of getting a team promoted from the Championship.” “The problem is, the Norwich team that he managed, that was stable. Norwich was a stable club with a wage structure, no huge players or egos. He’s now going to a club where some of the players are on massive wages. I doubt he would have ever managed players that are being paid as much as some of the Leeds squad." “Some clubs can manage that process better than others,” “For example, if you look at the likes of Burnley, they have had the foresight to plan for relegation and are ready to bounce back when it does happen. I don’t think anybody at Leeds saw this coming despite the club staying up by the skin of their teeth last season. It’s poor planning.” please log in to view this image
Morning everyone time for ex players to Farke off trying to remain relevant. Eight weeks is long enough to sort a decent squad out.
Good morning all Al i can say is thank god that parts all over, myself and Leeds fans everywhere wish Daniel the best of luck, because by god he's going to need it. Things are now looking up and i have more confidence in our future now, than i have had in the past twelve months. So all the best to Daniel and his staff, so here's to an exciting and productive future.
Morning all The hard work starts today. Farke needs to build a squad and get us up and running. 8 weeks isn't a lot of time.
Personally, I really like the fact that he needed convincing and was. That strongly suggests clear planning and leadership going on in the background. If Manning and Darlow are true, Hammond is doing exactly what he did at Newcastle in a short space of time. Identifying and lining up targets quietly and quickly, got a good feeling about things. My only concern is we may stutter early doors and how patient the fans are. On a different note, I have always enjoyed the banter with the Millwall posters on here, condolences lads on the sudden passing of John Berylson
Was just about to say that he might need a little time to get the team all settled and playing the way he wants them to. My next question would be whether the owners or more importantly the fans will give him time. I have serious doubts about our fans after the last couple of seasons. We certainly haven't acted like the best fans in the world like we profess to be.
hmmm don't know about the not acted like the best fans recently.........tbf the crap served up maybe had something to do with it......the lessons from the previous seasons near miss weren't heeded and the same slop was served up...not a good recipe to keep people happy
Although I agree with alot of that I think the fans were incredibly quick to turn on anyone and everything from the owners, to the managers, coaches, sporting directors, individual players then finally the whole group at the end. That didn't help things at all, it just made it worse. They were a catalyst to the inevitable implosion. A certain section acted like entitled kids.
the players didn't help the scenario neither imo...you pays your money and all, like a restaurant if you get served a meal not up to your standard you might possibly give it another chance......second meal same standard, sorry try another venue or get a better chef
Absolutely spot on old school. All this bull that you should applaud any old rubbish served up by the mercenaries on the field is exactly that, bull. Are our away fans like Heidi not allowed complain who have travelling up and down the country for decades. If the players serve up crap and can't handle criticism, they need to find a new sport
Morning all I read somewhere earlier today that Farke is close to Thomas Tuchel and Klopp and the suggestion was he could ask some favours regarding loans IF we were held up with new signings and the takeover being given the green light by the EFL If he managed to bring in one or two outstanding players who'd make a difference great but I am hoping that isn't a route we go and we look to develop players who if good enough will still be with us next season. An interesting few days ahead and we should start to learn who will be here next season and who wants out
It's entertainment, you don't pay a subscription and get a say in how things are run. You pay to go to watch them, if you don't like what you see you don't go back, it is your choice to keep returning. If a player has a Leeds shirt on and is trying but they simply are not good enough or you think they are not then it isn't that players fault. I don't for a moment believe Bamford is good enough but he didn't miss those shots on purpose just to piss the fans off, then he has tweets saying push his kid down the stairs and shoot his dog, it is not on. If you've watched a bad game and don't wish to applaud that's fine but I agree totally with Emu, some of our fans acted very poor and then those same fans wonder why some players wish to leave.
although i have traveled many, many, many miles myself over the decades up till my 'retirement' from actually physically watching the side, myself and the group of fellow nutters where always quick to praise some wonderful footy seen... but also vented our spleen at dross especially coming back from a long away trip and having to rise for work for a 6 a.m. shift ...so yeah praise when warranted and anger when not.....heidi has a unique place in the annuls of lufc support and rightly so
On the subject of ins/outs and loans. I believe whilst we need to offload some players we also need to be shrewd about using the loan market too. Pointless spending cash on a player who is never going to work out in the prem, so using the loan market can be good. Forest and Burnley used it very well and both won promotion. It also means that the players you have out on loan but still on your books as an asset and that asset register isn’t blown up by having loads of new players added
you don't pay a subscription? what's a season ticket then!.................as for going back to watch ffs it's in the blood risty or didn't you know.....happy days
I understand your sentiments about loans mate but, didn’t Burnley use that hugely to their advantage last year? Only a few seasons ago, the likes of Reece James, Mason Mount, Connor Gallagher, Ben White, Dean Henderson and Harvey Barnes were on loan with Championship teams, I would take that sort of quality in a heartbeat if we can get it. Loans with an option (rather than obligation) to buy would be preferable of course but that relies on the parent clubs playing ball. It’s funny really, Ben White didn’t get my pulse racing when he signed but, wow, what a player. Izzy Brown when he signed on the other hand I said was an awesome signing having seen him play for Rotherham and Huddersfield but he just never got going for us. I guess it highlights that signing players is not an exact science so, for me a few loans would be fine
Maybe reason our lot were better in an empty stadium. They didn’t like the sound of the nasty fans when things weren’t going to plan
......of course we are but I remember in the gelderd in the 70's certain 'fans' used to like taunting each other which sometimes spilled into a fracas, which the police took great pleasure in going in to separate them....nowts changed then
It's a chance to watch a football game between two sides, for you to be entertained. It doesn't guarantee a result or performance that would be desirable, it isn't a ticket to abuse those performing and it doesn't give anyone a say in how the club is run, who should be picked or who should be employed Not clapping, booing at the end, I am fine with that but the abuse some received was bad
