We have very very good goalkeeper coaches at our club. That side of things definitely isn't the issue
As someone closer to it HT2 I'll take your word for it. That being the case, recruitment would seem to be the issue or people not developing as hoped.
It's a really difficult subject to get into on here and explain, but development of goalkeepers is really difficult for a number of reasons, there's only 1 in a team for a start ( and you can't play out of position ) the #1 keeper in a team never really misses many games, keepers don't hit their prime until 30s so hard for young ones to break through past those older ones In their prime. Young keepers tend to have to drop down the leagues to get games/experience and move back up the leagues ( I know not always before anyone says ) The way goalkeepers are expected to play these days isn't the way most of them have been coached and developed over previous years in the UK so more keepers are coming in from abroad which again makes it harder for younger ones to develop and break through. The numbers & % of young keepers who actually make it is miniscule
Honestly, I wouldn’t be arsed if we didn’t sign another keeper this summer. Ingram’s solid even if he isn’t special. If Lo-Tutala is as good as some make out, I see no reason why he can’t be #2 at the start of the season.
With your experience, would you say we need another keeper? We seem to have quite a few on the books and we’ve just added Foster. Signing another keeper to challenge Ingram will stifle the development of the younger keepers.
Does Sinik being left behind maybe stack the rumours that he was/is a bad influence on Ozan? Would really love to know why he's been left behind
It's a tough one, because selfishly you could say bring a #2 that could sit on our bench and then ours go out on loan to get proper game experience, but say lu-tutala goes out and just sits in a bench he might as well do it here ( he's the only one ready to be around the first team weekly ) or he goes out and Ingram gets injured for an extended period and the #2 we have loaned ends up getting the games, Lu-tutala misses out again. I know that doesn't really answer the question haha
He isn't a bad influence at all, he's just found it very difficult to settle, he isn't the first and won't be the last
I think he ended the season injured, no idea what or how bad. Wondering if he is using the rehabilitation service at St George's Park.
After watching TLT a few games for Stevenage, it's pretty essential that we go out and bring in another keeper. He looks to have the makings of a very decent keeper but he's not there yet and if we're serious about the top 6, it's not a worthwhile risk
How are Lo-Tutala or Cartwright supposed to break into the first team if we keep buying keepers though? If they’re highly-rated, I don’t see why Lo-Tutala of Cartwright can’t be #2 to Ingram. We supposed to just loan them out to League 2 indefinitely until their contract runs out?
His passport was in his trousers pocket and the numb nuts put them in the washing machine. Waiting for a new one.
You say some proper bizarre stuff. How do they get better if they don't play? TLT ain't ready yet, and Cartwright couldn't get a game in L1.
You've also got to take into account the drivers for current first team managers. Although they will all say it's a long term project and building for the future etc. They all know full well it's all about short term success and if bringing in a keeper will help them get that short term success, then the long term prospects of a keeper that's 3/4/5yrs or even longer from challenging the first team, isn't going to be of concern to them. Not that any will ever admit that.
