what do you mean by good money as we paid £20-25m 3 years ago and since he is 32 i personally think we would be doing well to get much above £10m .
I think he's a quality player and will be a major part of any success we have so to just off load such experience and quality for £10M seems crazy to me.

maybe when he is fully fit but that seems a rarity these days . To be blunt i don't think he can now cope with the intensity pf PL and if we clear his £200kpw wage off the books and get say £12m which is then reinvested in a new signing i would be happy . Obviously if some silly bid from the Saudis comes in all the better but doubt that by the recent ones .

I don't think he'll be starting now which I hope reduces the injuries he has. To me he'll be invaluable coming off the bench giving us such quality and experience.

Gerrard returns to management
Steven Gerrard has returned to management in Saudi Arabia after playing hardball with his new employers.

The former Rangers and Aston Villa boss has been announced as the new head coach of Al-Ettifaq - a matter of weeks after suggesting their contract offer wasn’t up to scratch.

Gerrard, sacked by Villa last year, was invited to the Middle East last month and held talks with club officials, but on his return to England insisted: “As we stand right now, I won’t be taking that offer up."

But after holding further talks with officials of the side who finished seventh in the Saudi Pro League last term, Gerrard has now agreed to take on the role.

think we have to agree to disagree on this one

I think I agree with you. We got him for a low fee as he had a year left and only wanted to come to us. If we can get that kind of money back, I’d snap their arms off, although it’s a fair point to look at how much experience will be left if he does go.

It appears that we are pretty much rebuilding the entire midfield which is good imo, though we will have to be patient.

we will still have Fab & Hendo plus Szob and AMC may be youngish but they are still experienced players .

I agree that we would should target a 6 but worth highlighting that Dom and Mac are both good defensively from a pressing perspective. They will provide more solidity than Hendo / Elliot / jones

I've read a few times that they're both good defensively too; although, I feel like if we play them in the number 6 role we would be missing out on a lot of their more attacking skills. It's always good to have true full-stack midfielders on the books though that can play in any position to provide cover for each other.

After AMA and Szoboszlai (my phone learned his name very quickly), I think we'll get a CB surprise that hasn't been linked .. or .. an outrageous deal on Colwill.
