So Newcastle can definitely **** off with their insulting offers. Also good to see Tino showing maturity and class at such a young age. Could easily have had his head turned by Newcastle's interest.

Yes that is one way of looking at it. A different one is he has been out for a year with a bad injury, who knows how that has affected him/his development. The offer from Newcastle is there right now, if he plays 6 months/a season with us and it turns out the injury has effected him enough that big teams aren’t interested then he possibly won’t get the chance again. It is a big risk for him to take.

As I said I can see it from both sides, but if I were him I’d take the guaranteed offer now if a deal can be done with Saints, rather than hoping there will be interest again further down the line

“Potentially make an offer” sounds very enticing for him to force the move

Risky sure. But at 20 he can take these risks. Also, there may be potential issues on a medical?

I think it is more of a risk on the buying club.

I really don't think this is in a young talented footballers psyche
He will be aiming to succeed at the highest level and choose the best development options to do that
He'll be expecting big pay days and winning stuff in the future

    Are you projecting pessimism? :emoticon-0105-wink:

EDIT: Also, meant to mention before, I'd heard he'd said he wanted to stay, as mentioned by others
He knows we'll look after him, we've already proved that

Yeah he has time on his hands. And yeah it is 100% riskier for Newcastle than us, hence why the valuations are quite far apart. Newcastle’s targets are much different to ours, so if he has lost a bit of pace/confidence/ability he may still be good enough to be an important player for us, but not for them.

I assume his ambition is to play at the very top so when an offer comes around he has to consider it. As Spider-Man said and the tweet I didn’t see before my last post he seems to want to play regularly and that may be the reason he ends up staying. From his perspective just have to hope the injury hasn’t taken a big toll

I don’t know about the psyche bit. Everyone is different and money obviously plays a big factor in decision making for anyone, footballers included. He does seem to prioritise first team football which is good for us as it would take a massive drop off in ability for him not to be useful to us in the Championship.

He could be getting a big pay day and going to a side who want to be winning things right now, rather than waiting a year or 2 and maybe getting the move.

There isn’t really a “wrong” decision for him right now in my view. Both staying and going have positives and negatives, I just think staying is the riskier choice for him

I can't work out if this is sarcasm or not?

The tweet is meaningless nonsense, No?
If we accepted their price, why would they not make an offer to him?

I would suggest that they potentially be ready to formalise their ****ing off from the negotiating table if they’re going to waste our time with offers below £40m

Everyone is different, but if you don't have a very positive mindset your not going to make it as a top top footballer and I'm sure he has that

Sorry, I know this could go on endlessly, I'll leave it now :emoticon-0148-yes:

I agree. One thing I must say though is this 'big payday' stuff.

To put it into perspective, at 20 years old he could earn say 30k a week with us (£1.5million a year). I know with Newcastle that would be £4-5m/year, but I am pretty sure £1.5m a year over 2-3 years at 20 (or any age) sets you up pretty well in life. £30k is more than the national average wage per year, so he would at 20, earn more than 52 times the national average wage for an adult per year.

I know some may not see it at 20 years old, but a choice to develop with us is hardly taking a chance with his financial future.

Not directed at you, but sometimes I think we need to take a reality check on footballers' wages.

Yeah there must be some footballers out there who actually enjoy playing football.

I think probably fewer than we would like to think. Getting into an academy means you have probably been playing under pressure week in and week out since you were 5. Then the dog eat dog academy world itself. Then the lottery of where you end up living and working.

I imagine a lot of the love of football is driven out.

Agree. And that's all before you have agents etc in your ear presenting you with the worst case scenarios of career ending injuries tomorrow or comparing you with other players.

Callum Doyle off to Leicester. That's another one I would have loved here.

I propose that we make Romeo’s agent an enticing counter offer whereby he can personally pay off the entirety of the sell on clause if he wants Lavia to move for under £40m.
