I said this about Newcastle when they were banging on about how CL would mean they could buy who they wanted. They're still Newcastle and nobody outside of England knows or gives a **** about Eddie Howe. They either have to go down the Chelsea/Citeh route of big wages for mercenary players or accept a few seasons of in and out of Europe while they establish themselves or be really clever in the transfer market (which is really hard to get right) I've noticed how quiet they've been so far, considering their changes in circumstance
Shall we just call him Sobo or Dom, the full name is daunting. Anyway, he is due for a medical today. Where’s the next signing LOL
To be fair their recent signings have been the type. They got players like Botman / Isak / Bruno in a worse position than now so they can attract players. They need to target the player that we were 4/5 years ago. It sounds stupid but CL may have been worse thing for them as now trying to target CL players but not got the rep for it and players may think it is a one off and want to make sure they’re consistently in Cl before they join. Don’t think they want or need to go after the older mercenary players and don’t think newcatsle fans or Howe will Want that to be fair. Their first step should be constantly challenging for top 6 places - let’s be real if us or chelsea werent quite so **** they may not have got top 4 this year anyway. Next year going to be tougher as teams don’t underestimate them plus have the 2 games a week with europe that not dealt with. To do that, need to target those players that are just under top class and looking to develop them. Tonali is the type just need a couple more of them
Newcastle's problem is location. Foreign players want to live in London, or North West around Hale Barns/Alderley Edge. They will see Newcastle as being out on its own as a city, even though it is a great place and the surrounding countryside is fantastic. But foreign players will be unaware of this and just look for the bright lights of London or Manchester/Liverpool.
Romano confirms Liverpool medical today for £60m star with Reds still ‘in the market’ for £34m midfielder
Players will still be looking to see if they can maintain their position in the top 4 before seeing them as a genuine proposition.
Yeah they have to do something and Tonali isn't it, might be a decent signing but it's not going to raise eyebrows.
Totally this. I think he was badly used in the 2020/21 season as well when we had him unnecessarily used as an auxiliary CB for far, far too long because we weren't prepared to adapt our 4-3-3 formation to the players we actually had available.
Beautiful. I drove down the A68 from Jedburgh to Corbridge on Thursday - it's like a fairground ride.
klopp has not played a rw at rw since salah arrived bar emergencies he has not played an lw at lw either. its always inverted and free. I agree that this guy looks a false 10/8 in the box midfield
I presume sboz will be the attacking RM. Can’t see him as the Salah back up tbh. He has the work rate to cover Trent, but has immense attacking ability to get us up the pitch, and into the box. I really hope we also get Lavia and thuram …
Yeah. The inverted forwards worked because the wide deliveries came from the FBs. This why, regardless of how good Trent may be in midfield, I think we lose a lot from him not being out wide.
