I've not seen a ton, but then again I've been pretty busy this week. Hoping that at least it gives Merc a bit of data to dial in these upgrades a bit to at least try give RBR a bit of competition. Sadly I don't see Ferrari doing jack this season.
Haha yes I know what you mean but with the recent successes and talent at the team it was surprising they could not at least find their platform from which to build. Have to prove it is no outlier as they were good at Barca last year, but they appeared to have made a step. I’m far more excited if Aston can make a leap with their upgrades which I believe are coming in Montreal.
So Ferrari rock up a Le Mans and win it after 50 years out of the game, yet they can't get their act together in F1 for love nor money. Bonkers!
Maybe the rules are too tight in F1 for their cultural approach to work best. Races are very short compared to Le Mans too.
Was just reading how some teams are turning down offers of buyouts of sums almost in the billions of $$$$. Arabs after donig more sports washing more like.
The sport should be occupied by those with a passion for it, not people with money. But then you look at football. Difficult to know what to do when you have so much money. Its a hard life for some.
Snipped from the RedBull thread, because it was a bit off topic, but I was intrigued. Was that really the consensus at the time? I’d think most would have expected them to be well matched, as they were in the end?
Daniel Ricciardo has been confirmed to do Red Bull Racing 3 day tyre test after the British GP at Silverstone . Nice opportunity to get his hands on that RB 19 , let`s see what he can do. Can`t wait !
I remember at the time that even when Button did lose to Lewis in 2010, it was considered a shock that he got within 2 tenths on average. Jenson was very underrated before joining McLaren. It also common opinion that Massa would give Alonso a fight, that Schumacher would dominate Rosberg and that Lewis leaving McLaren was a career ruining blunder. So not a great time for pundit accuracy in general
There were a few comments at the time, as I recall. Maybe my memory is wrong but I recall Lewis being a bit upset about it. I thought he wanted to prevent sharing of info with Jenson's side. I could be wrong, doesn't matter much. Might have been press hyping it up at the time. Lewis has long since matured. Easy to be generous when you have experienced his success, albeit he remains competitive. Interested to see how he and George pan out.
Thanks - I don’t think I was reading F1 internet back then, just Autosport and talking with friends. From what I recall in those discussions Buttons talent was recognised and people expected that there would be both Button days and Hamilton days due to them both having quite different strengths and weaknesses. I recall one of the big things we’d spotted about Button was that when the Brawn was good he suddenly lifted his game and blew Barrichello away. Having surprisingly landed on the fastest car in the grid, and given Rubén’s experience of being around championships and in great cars at Ferrari, you we we’re impressed that went the opposite of the way you expected.
Thinking back, I do vaguely recall the telemetry sharing thing, I think it was around a Button pole at Spa, putting Hamilton’s back up? I also vaguely recall that they hit each other in Turkey when in a similar scenario whe Button was surprisingly quicker. It would be interesting to see how Hamilton would handle a competitive teammate nowadays, George generally seems to be a step back and they aren’t really fighting for anything that matters, so we don’t have a datapoint since Rosberg. I’m quite nostalgic for the Senna/Prost days now
can anyone explain the sudden lack of media love for daddy's boy stroll? he stupidly broke himself up before the off and was absolutely fawned over by sky for weeks but now it seems even being daddy's favourite little man is not saving lance from the inevitable alonso comparisons. i can think of no other basically bang average at best driver who's stayed in f1 this long and why all of a sudden the media are saying he is letting Aston down is beyond me. he's been letting his team fldown for years and years. surely it's not merely a superficial comparison to alonso?
Situation at Aston has changed now? The car is now at the sharp end, but they still have one mid grid driver? You’d think if, say Norris had been in the other car, they’d be well ahead of Merc in the points.
The lack of media love is because the media would like to see someone capable of at least matching Alonso and their best way of dropping the hint is to start criticizing Lance. Anyway Stroll senior is probably a little afraid of disappointing daddy's favourite little man and don`t forget,he did buy the team for him.
I have wondered for a while now . Yes Stroll sir bought the face team , but surely there is some official link with the team and the board at Aston Martin cars ? surely Daddy stroll will come under pressure to drop his son ? I cannot abide Lance as a person ( yes I only know what I read etc ) but I don’t think he’s that bad a driver , not good enough to be in the AM team though .
Yes,that`s a good point about the top brass on the board at Aston Martin, surely they will have the final say on who the drivers will be. Also I agree with you about his driving, although he does tend to blow a bit hot and cold from one GP to the next. Actually out qualifies Fernando for the race on Sunday I see.
