I'm not sure if I've contributed to this thread before. But now, at the end of the season, it should be pretty clear to most that Hamilton has indeed under-performed during 2011.
He clearly has underperformed , but I think sea-man is posing a slightly different question to the original thread title.
Yes, I realise that Bhaji. Well, in terms of "is he back?"; a performance like that is surely its own proof. How long it can be maintained is of course a moot point; but I'd suggest that he's getting his head back together and will show strongly in Brazil, thus finishing the season on a relative high and leaving him in a positive state of mind during the winter. "Is he back?" really requires a gradual improvement in his state of mind. One very strong performance is not enough in itself but it helps!
I agree totally with that... It's one step to getting back on top of his game. If he can find his form is still a matter of debate, but it's at least a move in the right direction. I personally think that he'd have been more satisfied if he had beaten Vettel today, so even thought it was a boost, I'd think he knows that it could have been a much different outcome. A solid result in Brazil will help going in to winter though.
I think Pole and 2nd in Korea and yesterday's win suggest that he is back, but as Sgt. Bahji says, a good result in Brazil is important to cement his resurgence.
Hamilton is clearly the best F1 driver ever. If only he can sort out his feelings. If only he can keep his emotions well balanced and create a happy and loving bubble around him. We all know, don't we, that the tippety top sports stars in the world are completely unable to stop their emotions from impinging on their sporting performances. I remember when I was in Zaire for the Rumble in the Jungle. Just after round 6 Ali sat on his stool and just wept and wept, sobbing the words, "I feel really sad because my pet goldfish is poorly at the moment. Boo hoo hoo." Honestly, who cares if he's underperforming, overperforming or just performing? Anyone who likes him will say he is underperforming because they think he's the best ever, despite all evidence to the contrary. I'm fed up with everything in F1 being about Hamilton. Alonso wins. That must affect Hamilton. Button wins. Hamilton will be under pressure. A butterfly flaps its' wings in a rain forest. Hamilton locks up again.
lets have a bit of sympathy for lewis , his bubble brained dolly gave him his P45 a few weeks ago and he cant see out of his mirrors , and he longs to be in a " happy bubble " with his family - all of these problems and mclaren are only paying him 50 zillion gold simileons -- lets cut him a bit of slack basil ---
Money doesn't always bring you happiness, and it is just as true that you can't always stop your emotions getting the better of you. Then again Hamilton has been pretty quiet of late so most of what is written about him is guess work
fluck me bright -- 50 zillion gold simileons would sure as hell put a spring in my step , i suspect it would also put a spring in your step and everybody"s else"s step on here --
It would certainly help but the things that make me happiest in life don't cost me a penny, which I believe is a good thing.
I've noticed. I suppose I'm in a position of relative wealth; but for me too, it is the priceless things that really matter.
I do think Hamilton will have gained a confidence boost from this result, but it does not affect the fact that he has been driving horribly this season. And the only reason he did win was because of a Pirelli issue.
good shout eternal -- hamilton is probally not a fool and would be very aware that he inherited this win by a lucky fluke ,two lucky flukes if you include buttons malfuctioning car , i can clearly remember hamiltons face after qualifying it was very much like a busted toilet , i personally think the emergence of vettel as a major player in the coming seasons has miffed lewis more than he would care to admit -- no driver likes to think there may be better drivers than himself in his own era and vettel is clearly going to rack up many more wins and probally multiple WDCs in the coming yrs -- just my opinion but it would not surprise me if vettel is starting to put a bug up hamiltons ( where the sun dont shine ) ---
Hahahahahaha, maybe Hamiltons last win in my opinion - not to annoy anyone. Vettel and RB are just too darn fast. PS. your last sentence won't stop making me laugh.

I shouldn't say this because it annoys people but, "42 year old Michael Schumacher- 3 tenths slower than a 26 year old Nico Rosberg in qualifying". Is is really as bad as people want to see it? I don't think so - even more when gap is only 4 hundredths of a second wider than that of Ferrari.
If Schumacher wants to carry on in F1 then his age should not be an issue or an excuse. It would be like say "50 year old Michael Schumacher - 1 second slower than a 26 year old Nico Rosberg in qualifying is not bad". Slow is slow, lap times are lap times. It does not matter if Schumacher is driving well for a 42 year old, he has to be driving well for a current F1 driver.
Can i ask why you keep bringing up 42 years old up? If he wasnt fit enough, he wouldnt be racing. it doesnt matter that he is 42 or 4.
