I’d say Leicester be most likely, they’ve got some cash to splash. Brentford also looking at Joachim Andersen and Nathan Collins apparently so I think Greaves will be further down their shortlist.
The rise of McLoughlin has really hurt him and he's become expendable. It's an intriguing one because we'll bring in a LB regardless and we don't need to bring in a starting CB either so we can spend the money on other areas.
Leicester in the Championship is looking like a joke already. They've spent £10m on Winks, who's a ridiculous signing for this level as is Coady and they want Steffen and Piroe.
Agree with the sentiments, but not sure it's correct to say he lost his place in his favoured (CB) position? More like Rosenior found a way to play him and McG (and Jones) in the starting XI by preferring Greaves over Elder at LB. FWIW, I sort of got the logic for a one-off game where we arguably / allegedly 'needed' more height in the side, but not as an ongoing approach. I'd have much preferred us playing a proper LB, be that Elder or Fleming, and then Rosenior choosing his CB pairing out of the 3. I know the stats show the massive improvement in our defensive record under Rosenior, but I reckon similar would have been achieved had Elder being playing, plus we'd have likely got more from him going forward. The improvement was a collection of things, like basic organisation, clarity, etc, not primarily imo down to playing Greaves at LB. Bit disappointed if he does go as it's another local lad leaving, but not that gutted, so long as we get good money for him (meaning if he's going then best to get it over and done with).
Bit low, tbf. Especially when a lot of it is add-one. However, if we’re that concerned about FFP we might have to take it.
So Acun was naive I suppose. I think expecting to turn the squad over so quickly with such an instant investment was naive. Football isn't a computer game. Easing into the squad transition would have been more financially responsible and would have borne the same result long term with less waste.
Very low, considering other CB's with similar ability & experience left for the Premier League for £15m - £20m.... Adam Webster - £20m https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...record-to-sign-adam-webster-from-bristol-city Harry Souttar - £15m https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...City-agree-deal-Stoke-City-Harry-Souttar.html
Issue is if Greaves leaves we'll need a capable LB deputy as well as a CB which was my point way back when we announced Elder was leaving. With Elder gone, Greaves leaving means we need two more in, whereas if Elder had stayed, we could have had him as depth (presuming he was willing to play that role, which may have been part of why he left, who knows).
I was thinking about Souttar when I posted that. If Stoke can demand £15 million for Souttar, we can demand £10 million at least. He has three years left on his deal.
I mean prior to their premier league exploits under Dyche they were averaging 10-13k and probably lost some fans to nearby lancashire clubs. They were very similar to what Luton are now. Team with a smaller fanbase who would be wise to use the prem money to set them up for years to come and not spunk it on players who wont want to go down to the championship
We have Flemming who can be a capable backup, before he was injured he was performing very well. Doubt we will spend money on a second left back just for backup who is championship ready already, better to spend the money elsewhere and keep a local lad who's played well in the past.
If it's £5 million plus add-ons, that's quite poor. We may as well keep him if that's the offers we're getting and he isn't pushing to leave this summer. Boro were offering something not far off that last summer when he only had one year left on his contract.
Are we sure he isn’t pushing? There’s currently no need for him to ‘push’ as City are quite willing to let him go. If there was interest and City weren’t it would be a different story.
Because he’s not good enough for us Chazz. If someone wants to pay good money for our back up players then that’s great news.
I know the word is that FFP is tight but it was also mentioned that there is a budget for what we need so we certainly don't need to sell. Greaves is an excellent player that has shown to be capable at both CB and LB when needed and he's only 22, he will develop further. I say reject anything under 15m and lets stop undervaluing our talent and start over valuing it like most other teams do!
Probably their opening bid. It's a real shame he didnt start more in a way because the way other clubs see it is that he's a backup player that needs developing as opposed to Souttar who you mentioned was starting every week for Stoke. City still hold all the cards though he's got 3 years left on his deal so they can set a price
Leicester might be spending money like a drunken sailor, but there's no guarantee it will work out....I reckon they'll have the best part of say £60 million incoming on the sales of Maddison and Barnes, plus the parachute payments. So make that nearer to £90 million. Still their manager is untested at this level. Might do a Norwich and fail to click..
